Default Turbo Type R in an EG hatch some ?'s

As some of you may know my car was stolen and never found. I am looking at maybe buying colorpro's car. It has a type r turbo motor in it. How will this motor compare to my turbo LS. Will this motor be like a GSR turbo? Does not have much TQ down low but when you get the RPM's up it will have some tq? I have never ridden in or drove in a turbo type r car. I would like to know what your thoughts are b/c I would hate to drive 8 hours down to see the car and not like it.

Also how reliable are the type r motors with a turbo being that I belive the compression is a lot higher then an LS or GSR.
Thanks for your help.

i think that i will be faster considering that it is in a hatch. as far as reliablity, anything is possible with the right amount of tunning.

it's all in the tuning for reliablity. but IMHO, i believe type-r motor shoudl remain N/A. I can't imagine revving up that motor all the up to 9K and be boosted at the same time. It should push out more power than an LS turbo.

Uh oh, I hope the turbo ITR guys don't get ahold of this ...Oh wait, I'm one of them...
FWIW, properly tuned ITR motors love boost and make some extrmely good power.

yes id say type-r engines are mean on boost.

340hp@ the wheels from 14 psi, built type r bottom end. stock itr head, rev hard stage 2 kit. (using fmu,afc,,310s, missing link and msd inline,)

How about the TQ vs an ls motor. Is the type r motor like a gsr motor in the tq aspect. Where it does not build tq till higher rpms?

A gsr IMO is a much better base to work from. Type r engines are pretty much all hype when it comes down to forced induction. The intake manifold, cams and compression all need to be changed to make alot of power on the engines. The other 2-3K that you pay for the engine could go into more FI parts.

The torque curve generally stays linear, and peaks higher than a gsr/b16a.

I know people who have revved boosted Type-R motors to 10K with the stock internals....So ~8400 RPM is no problem...

I rev my R to 9000, on stock internals...
