Default Turbo setup this weekend- Failed Bad - Need help please.

Setup: D16Y8 - 1995 Honda Del Sol - Stock internals
Turbo - T04E .50 A/R Compressor, .63 A/R Turbine
Tubular manifold - Delta-mark II wastegate 9-13psi spring
FMU 12:1 w/ stock injectors

After i installed everything, connected the pipes to the intercooler, hooked up vacuum lines etc... I noticed a few things. When the car was idling, the intake turbine was not spinning, when i gave it gas, it spun. Oil lines hooked up properly, no leaks etc.

Problems:

1. Boost gauge showing ZERO boost when driving with kit installed.
2. Blow-off valve not functioning.
3. Waste gate not opening

Basically, i have the whole turbo kit setup and the car is running as if i have no turbo at all. Boost gauge shows vacuum, but when i give it full throttle, goes to 0 boost.

Disgusted, i took off my turbo kit and returned to n/a. I want this kit to work, i know im doing something wrong. Any help would be GREATLY appreciated.
I have some DSM 450cc injectors that i've yet to install, and a VAFC that has still yet to be hacked, but still at a loss as to why I am not boosting.

Is it possible that the turbo is too big for my setup?

If your in the Dallas area and can assist me in this install, that would be awesome.

ANy feedback or questions will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Kenny

here are some pics of the turbo, it has a broken fin on the wheel but still spins freely.... ?

Here shows the chipped turbine that i chipped when clocking the turbo.

I would NOT use the turbo with a blade broke like that.

The speed that part spins at is so high that with it off balance like that it will probably explode.

ugh, i know i need to and WILL before i put it back on my car.

So this turbo is NOT to big for my engine?

Where can i get a new wheel from... ugh.. All the research i did never prepared me for the mishaps i had this weekend.

THanks for the input.

the reason the turbine didnt spin in idle was because the turbo is big the same thing happened um my friends 240 sx because the turbo was huge. also with a wheel like that it would destroy the whole turbo so replace the wheel talk to the manufacturer of the turbo for the replacement part

Most wheels wont spin at idle unless its a ball bearing. Any your BOV and wastegate not working, have to do with the fact that your turbo isnt making any boost. Fix that, and the others will work/should work.

make sure your intercooler piping isn't unhooked from anywhere

I've owned 4 turbos and all of them spin at idle. None of them were ball bearing...

Do you hear any exhaust leaks? Are all of the charge pipes tight? A small boost leak can cause you to have no boost. No boost = Wastegate and Blow off valve will not work ...

That manifold/turbo combo looks like the SSAutochrome stuff on Ebay....

not all turbos will spin at idle.

Replace the wheel of the turbo. Do not use a wheel that is broken.

So I am still thinking of blowing the whole setup up, selling it all.

Is the turbo setup too big for my engine? I don't want to give up, I just need to know if that turbo is too big. If its fine for my car, I will replace the wheel and try again.

THanks for all your input,

kenny

turbo size will be fine..just take a lil longer to boost thats all..and I have seen a few turbos that where like yours that would not boost due to the broken spot letting the pressure out before it could get in..keep it..buy a new wheel..and boost.

the turbo is the right size just check your piping, and wastegate. If you don't build boost, it's becuase your losing it from a different area.

My wastegate feel off.........(screws to short and backed out) don't laugh
IC piping poped off.....gauge read zero boost. I don't mind helping you on a weekend. Check your vac lines as well.....Im repeating everyone, sorry.

yeah, don't give up so easily..btw, if the turbo isn't spinning at idle than it's most likely trashed.

On a d16 I would not use a t3/to4e. If I was you I'd downgrade to a T3 or T3 super 60. You probbaly won't see full boost on your car until like 5000 rpm. That's only 2200 rpms of boost. Good thing about it would be that you probably wouldn't spin too bad.

odd, if your wastegate flipper was open then it wouldn't boost either....right?
