Default Turbo project shopping list!!...and some Q's

I am currently making plans for a turbo project to be put on my EJ1 this summer...(stock single slammer d16z6)

My engine is completely stock except for I/H/E right now which will obviously be taken off when I install the turbo. This will be my first turbo "experience" besides a volvo I owned in high school. So.... my goals are this -

Keep the engine stock (I simply don't have enough time or money to rebuild my engine right now.) I am going to be shooting for 180whp which should be plenty for a while... so here's my question! I have researched a shopping list of parts I plan on buying, please let me know if I will be able to reach my goal of 180whp with this list! Like I said, I have been reading a lot and want to learn as much as possible before I actually do anything to my car!!

Shopping list:

-Basic Greddy turbo kit.
-Johnnyracecar.com 6" intercooler (I don't want to do too much cutting )
-HKS SSQ Blow off valve w/ alluminum flange.
-jcwhitney.com intercooler piping (I'll just cut it to fit)
-turbo timer
-boost gauge

Do I need anything else?????? Also, is the fuel management that comes with the greddy kit sufficient for my goals or do I need to get some injectors and a vafc or something?

Again, I am just looking for something reliable and that will give my car a little more life!

Thank you for your help!

Your goal of 180whp is definetely acheivable. The Greddy blue box isn't the best for fuel management. I've got friends who have had luck with both FMU's and the VAFC Hack, and would recommend one of those two unless your willing to dish out the extra $$$ for Hondata which of course is the ****. Good luck on the build up

forget turbo timer. Get an egt gauge.

A better engine management would be good. This is the utmost important part of the system. HONDATA ownz!!!!

Looking at your plans you should be able to get 180whp without to much hassle the biggest deal is going to be tuning. The greddy blue box isn't bad if you don't do anything more than run the turbo according to "stock" boost. If you plan on any more than that then additional tuning options will be needed.

Thanks for the input!

2 more questions...

-How much boost will it take to get 180whp?

-Will the greddy blue box be able to handle the fuel management @ 180whp? (what is its limit?)

Thanks again!

What turbo do you plan on running? I know you mentioned greddy kit but what turbo? I'm guessing that you'll need to run that 8-10psi to get 180 whp on a D series motor. This is only a guess though. A's far as the blue box goes not exactly sure what it's good to. My understanding is "stock" boost meaning whatever the kit wastegate spring is set to which is usually 6psi. Any one else know?

You can also look into one of the free ROM Editors and do your own tuning.
Do a search for Uberdata, or Crome

get DSM 450cc injectors, and a vafc.

run about 8-10psi and u should be very close to 180whp.

hondatunning got their d16z6 to put out 161 whp at only 6.5psi.

that was using an FMU and inline pump. so using the vafc and injectors u could possaly get more because tunning will be better.

also for 10psi retard your timming, but an MSD BTM
