Default turbo oil return through dipstick?

my dad was watching the speed channel and they twin turbo'd a challenger. he told me that they fab'd the oil return line through the dipstick tube. i thought it would be a great idea instead of doing the ol' return it to the oil pan. been there done that. i went to go take a look at a spare dseries block im fabricating off of and when i took a look at it i stopped and thought "there is no way this is going to work". the dipstick tube is wayyyyy to tiny and would definitely impede oil returning to the pan.

any one ever seen or done this before?

btw..only reason im considering going this route is because my turbo is a topmount setup and i wanna try something new too.

ideas would be greatly appreciated.

That hole is definately too small, unless you're going to drill it out to something like a -10 or larger? Those domestic guys do some hokey ****..

You could pull the tube out and drill and tap for a bigger fitting. Then you would have no dip stick though which is pretty lame.

I would just go the conventional route, and bung the oil pan. Gravity helps the flow of the oil back to the pan. The dipstick is lower, but I would be concerned with overheating(warping) the block when you tap/weld(or whatever method you decide to use) the new return in.

lol as "hokey" as it seems, it seemed like a legit oil return route.

no dipstick= no way to monitor oil level= fail.totally agree with you 90dxhmt.

true with the warping if you weld. probably jb weld it to prevent that from occurring lol but yes the conventional way is the best route at the moment.

if it is the new challenger, it is possible that the dip tube is rather large. the hellion kit for the challenger, actually returns throught he oil fill. www.hellionpowersystems.com they have a scavenge pump plumbed to a tank that pumps the oil back up to the top via a scavenge pump.

to do it on a honda, it cannot handle the volume.

the reason they do it on the hellion kits, is because the turbos actually sit lower than the oil pan.

that would be an easy route though if we could use the dip stick

I saw that episode last week myself....they used a pump, to pump the oil back since the turbos were mounted so low. Thats how they were able to make it work.
