TURBO + OBD II = NO INSPECTION?
i have recently sold my 93H22Turbo hatch and am in the market for another ride. i really like the newer dc2,dc5 integras and 99-00 si civic's. i am wanting to know how to get a newer car like this inspected that has been turboed and are obdII. hondata doesn't do obd II so i was thinking AEM. i know some of you have newer turbo cars; so what do you do? i live in NC if that makes a difference.

The only way to pass inspection on a 96-up obd2 car in NC is to have a odb2 ecu with no codes. They plug in a scanner and check for all the functions of the obd2 ecu and they make sure you dont have a check engine light or code, so AEM is most likely not going to pass. The only way i can think of passing is to either go back to stock for the yearly inspection or to have a hookup at the inspection center. I also live in NC and have to deal with the same ish. At least they dont have smog check dynos like they did when i lived in California.

Emission inspections are not required for obd1 cars. Just safety inspection and they check to make sure you have a cat. You can have a turbo and pass. This is from my recent inspection experience. The guy that worked there was really nice and gave me alot of info.

Thats what i have to do...i go back to my blue box and switch in my 310cc injectors... it sucks but its easier imo to do that than spend a **** ton on hondata or AEM

thats not true in all states, in CT you have to get emmisions done unless the car was pre 1970 or something like that. on anything pre OBD2 they do a sniffer test, anything OBD2 and up just gets a port scan.

CoreyR - If you read my first post you will see that i'm talking about North Carolina only. aaroboost - about the test pipe, i'm not 100% sure. I was told they check for cat. But maybe he meant only obd2 cars?

so is that what everyone does? just put the stock computer and injectors in for the inspection and put the big injectors and tuned ecu back in after. does this still work if you have a 3bar map, will the stock ecu throw a code ?

AEM EMS doesn't do OBD2.
I had a turbo EM1 for a couple of years in Raleigh, NC. Every year I'd swap my injectors/MAP/ECU, then drive it around not boosting (usually took about 40 minutes, I'd drive to work, then drive around at lunch for a bit) until my ready codes were set, then take it to get inspected. It really wasn't a big deal, took less than an hour to swap the parts out, and I'd have it inspected by lunch time. Swap the parts back and enjoy it for 364 days, repeat.
