standalone ecu's and obd emissions testing...
Well in the next few months NJ is planning on going through some changes as far as emissions goes. they will now be using obd emissions checking for all cars 96 and up ( http://www.state.nj.us/mvc/cleanair/odb.html ). any tampering of emissions equipment (i.e. obd2 to 1 conversions, o2 simulators, etc etc) found can result in big fines and impounding of the car. within the next few months i plan on going for a swap and within the next year, year and 1/2 i plan on going turbo. I know there are many standalones out on the market right now that do a great job at tunning, but will i still be emissions legal when it comes to obd testing? i guess i still am noobish as to standalones but from what i have heard some ecu's wont throw obd emissions codes so if dmv were to test the car it would fail. like i said im still very new to this part of ecu tunning, but any info would be greatly appreciated.
thanks,
Pete
