Default Turbo Intake Question

Hey, so I'm starting to get interested in possibly turbocharging my civic in the future but i just had a quick couple questions about intake: 1. Why do so many people run turbos with no air filter on the compressor side? Isn't that pretty much just like running your car without an air filter? 2. What's the use of the original intake system once you have a turbo?

1. yes its a bad idea to run without a filter. it could suck in some nasty stuff and ruin your turbo and motor. Some people just dont realize it and dont have room for it so they put mesh over it.
2.its where your charge piping goes for the intercooler and BOV.
