to get the cool air away from the engine thats the way to do it, but if there are space constraints, or in my case a 4" inlet, the filter off of the turbo will work fine.

From what iv'e read the comp inlet air does not make much difference wrt a couple of bends of piping then the filter or just the filter on the comp housing. Except the piping then the filter will inhibit the compressor a little bit. The intercooler (which on our cars are usually oversized) should handle the cooling of the charge air fine.
