Default which turbo for high hp application?

I am building a 1826cc GEM sleeved B18B block with a built B16A head p&p by TOO with his oversized valves and springs. I want to hit full boost at around 4000rpms and will have a red line of 9K. What about a T3/T04E with .82 a/r(is a .63 to small) and stage 5(what about a stage 3) ehaust side and a .63 a/r and 60trim compressor side? Will this be ideal for ~25psi and around 500hp? So basically I will be driving NA in town, for better gas milage, but will boost on the track.

i have a stage 3 turbine in a .63 a/r housing with a 60-1.it spools faster than you would ever believe and the car feels like it could rev to the moon!

what about on the ehaust side; would a .82 or .63 be better? Oh an on the compressor side which size housing should I use?

what about a .60 a/r compressor housing with a 60-1 trim and a .82 a/r exhaust housing with a stage 3 trim. What would the stage 5 exhaust trim do for me over a stage 3. When will the .82 a/r begin boosting?

A T3/T04E can produce ~500 whp.

T3
.82 A/R Exhaust Housing
Stage III Turbine

T04E
.60 A/R Compressor Housing
60 Trim Compressor Wheel

This will support 500-525 whp without any problems. This turbo should have full boost ~ 4000 rpms and pull until redline. You can also get this turbo with a Ball Bearing center section which will quicken spool by about 500-600 rpms.

You could also go with a T3/T04B like some people have said:

T3
.82 A/R Exhaust Housing
Stage III Turbine

T04B
60-1 Compressor Housing
60-1 Compressor Wheel

Both of these turbos withh support 500+ whp.

The real advantage to the 60-1 is that you can have similar HP numbers to the to4e louis speaks of at much lower boost levels. The to4b flows more cfm at a lower boost level, but is not capable of reaching ~30 psi. It will jsut blow heat up there.

Hondas do not like huge boost levels unless they are prepped extremely well: sleeved, oringed, studded (not arp studs, 1/2" head studs) etc. IMO a honda will prefer the 60-1.

The 60-1 with a stage 3 wheel and a .82 a/r on the turbine will haul *** on a car that can take some lag. If you dont want lag, take the .63. The small increase in backpressure isnt noticeable when youre spinning wheels and burning thru every gear

Assuming 400 whp is the goal, how small of a turbo can I get away with?

Thanks
Ben

"I have watched a TO4E .50-trim lay down 494whp (at helacious boost). The .54 is a good one. The .57 only makes a little bit more than the .50 (maybe like 20-30more hp potential?)." MarkC

Dang Geoff, you're always giving up the good secrets. 1/2" stud is supposed to be hush hush.

remember!! The only thing the T04b and the 60-1 have in common are the compressor housing clamps! The 60-1 compressor housing, compressor wheel and backplate are gigantic when compared to a normal T04b.

At the risk of asking too many little questions-
anyone know what MarkC. means by "hellacious" boost?
I'm looking at about 15 on the street, up to 25 on the strip/track.

Thanks again
Ben

not if you have a 60-1. thats a to4b.
i assume you are reffering to turbonetics numbers.my turbo is made from garret parts and nothing assembled at turbonetics.i have a t04e 9535-1 garret compressor.if it had the t04 turbine side and not the t3,it would be called a t-61.my friend owns the turbo shop that built it.if you don't understand the numbers i gave you,you can give him a call.he will explain it all to you.his name is reed at turbo specialties 205-444-5011.
