Turbo Help. Not sure on which wheels and why it keeps blowing oil seal
Hello all. I have this t3/t04e turbo that I have had for a while. I had it on a built z6 a long time ago and then on my current stock b18a, where is started to smoke. i could see some oil on the bottom of the turbine housing, so I figured blown oil seal, might as well rebuild the thing. Got a rebuild kit from the G-Pop shop on ebay and rebuilt it. was good for maybe a day if that and started smoking again. took the car down for a while to put on my b18c head and figured i would pop off the turbo and see about getting it rebuilt.
here are some pics of it. also can you inform me on which wheels theses are, like stage 3 or something, i would like to know the trim as well. i measured the wheels and they are as follows.
its and AirResearch turbo with a .60 on compressor housing and .48 ar on the hot
comp - didnt clean so this side is not blown
2.17^2/2.95^2 = .54 so is this a 54 trim? maybe i didnt get the smaller number exactly right
hot side - 1.93^2/2.53^2 = .58 i dunno here
here you can see where the oil was seeping out to
you can see i tried a restrictor to no avail. its internally gated and i love it. the .48ar gives me 14psi at like 3200 rpm. i think it may choke me up top with the vtec head, but i am willing to sacrifice a little top end for the fast spool and meaty powerband. i was running a heat wrapped ssAutocrap, but it cracked like a ****, whoops. so im either gonna weld that guy or get a cheap non-wastegated log mani to get me through this year and just stay internally gated.
i know pheonix turbo rebuilds for $300, but i can just get another turbo for $400 and put my exhaust housing on it. know anybody else that rebuild for less? maybe ill bite the bullet and have pheonix turbo do it
thanks in advance
any help is much appreciated

I suggest running a 1/16 inline restrictor. That'll get the flow you need... the problem with that ball/socket restrictor is that you reall need a gauge after it, so you can really see what you are adjusting.
I have a friend that uses it with a gauge and it works for him... but it took him awhile to dial in the oil psi to where it was just right for the turbo.

1/16 = .0625 and this is .060?

Thanks

http://www.wicksaircraft.com
1 x RESTRICTOR FITTING 1/8NPT M-F Part Number: EA22R-O (RESTRICTOR FITTING) (EA22R-O)
= $4.58
I then hit it with a 1/16th bit. So far its perfect. This fit right into the turbo feed btw, then i just ran my 45deg elbow off it and the line into that.

based off of the turbine wheel (stage 1) and the compressor wheel/housing it def. looks like a t3 to me, can you take a photo of the compressor housing looking at the inlet?

i will get a pic of the inlet this evening. do you want to see it with the housing on or off the turbo?? can i take any numbers down that would help in identifying this thing?? the od of the inlet is 3inches.
where could i see some examples of the stages of the wheels???
thank you very much for your help, this is VERY much appreciated!!!

finally got the pics loaded. here is one with the compressor housing on and next to a cd. what do you think
here are some numbers i found on the comp housing.
671382 and looks like a stamp on the housing near the outlet, i think it says HO81, buts its hard to read
on the inside is scribed 171383, but i think thats like a serial number
on the exhaust housing it says
FA1
M4
.48
285
any help you all have is really appreciated
