turbo d16y8 questions...
Ok. So dont go ******* my **** first off. I have a serious quedtion and im hoping someone can come up with a solution or answer.
I have a 97 civic coupe with a d16y8:
75.5mm srp pistons
Eagle h beam rods
je pro seal piston rings
Polished stock crank
Clevite bearings
Toga hiflo oil pump
Stage 2 turbo cam brian crower
Crower titanium springs
Titanium retainers
Oversized valves
Arp headstuds
Walbro 255 fuel pump
Aem hi flo fuel rail
Rc race 450cc injectors
Stage 3 competition clutch
T3/t4 Turbo with intercooler
Its Ported
polished
blueprinted
All brand new.
Now for the question..... she makes 240 hp to the wheels now without vtec. But when we turn on vtec tuning it on the dyno we actually lose power when it kicked in...im running on 8 psi. With a **** manual boost controller and stock map sensor for now. My tranny needs a rebuilding and im broke for a couple weeks. But id like to figure out why vtec isnt giving me the kick it should! please help. And refrain from negative comments!

Dont quote me on any of this as it is speculation, so sorry if it doesnt help...
I believe larger cams can effect vtec, by opening valves as long as vtec would have by default, I dont know your cam specs but its possible that it is affecting it (eg vtec killers) although by my logic I cant see that hurting it as much as not making any difference.
D series i am quite sure only have intake vtec not full vtec, so this may not apply but some b series motors have a decent amount of overlap especially in vtec. If this is the case with your motor (and there is debate to this as far as i know) the overlap could be hurting your boost by some percentage. read back pressure stuff: i was just reading that hondas like some overlap for boost, so i have no idea what im talking about haha
I didnt see a mention of your ECU or tuner, but you might want to check the map setup in vtec you may need more fuel, air or what have you. And better sensors cant hurt.
Lastly maybe your transmission isnt holding the power

Um, this is a question your tuner needs to answer. If he can't then find another tuner. BTW there is a Forced induction forum you needed to have posted this in.

My bad guys. Its a hondata s300 v3. The newest one. And my tuner is a little questionable I think. But it was free and the dude afforded a giant shop with a dyno in the floor and made a buisness out of it... although my last tune was free we tried for over an hour to figure out why?! And also. I guess I didnt really lose power it just levels out and old vtec had a huge kick I miss it! My tuner says he thinks I need to just sleeve my block and put more boost to it for vtec to have more effect.?

Your tuner is garbage, and shouldn't be around cars. Take it somewhere else. Seriously, tuning for the VTEC cross is easy. Also, anyone can "afford" a full shop with an in-floor dyno - it's called a business loan. Tools don't make a man, they just make a good man better.

Re: turbo d16y8 questions...
Yea it's clearly a tune issue.
the proper way to set the vtec crossover point is do a full pull with no vtec, then a full pull with the vtec engaged at a low rpm lie say 2000
Wherever those two graphs crossover is where vtec should engage, maybe a few hundred rpm before.
your "tuner" doesn't have a clue.

Thank you guys. I am looking for a good tuner around my area... not coming up with a whole lot. If you know of one in the kc or wichita area hit me up with a pm..
So anyone on here ever caught a sponsorship for anything??... ive been working for 2 years on this car and im about ready to take it to the track for a couple weekends and csee what she can really do! My problem is the **** isnt affordable to the normal guy anymore! Ha. Just curious if people have any tips on getting people on your side for a little help with tires or a tranny rebuild or anything really!

Unless you have something extremely special, you aren't going to get a sponsorship before the car even hits the track. You should start with contingency plans. A contingency plan is a public agreement from an aftermarket company that, if you do X, they will do Y. For example, Fidanza used to have a contingency plan where if you had their authorized sticker (comes free with the flywheel) installed in specific prominent locations (rear window or front fender, IIRC), and if you won first at a nationally recognized racing event (SCCA, NASA), if you provided them with proof, they would cut you a check for $100. Second got you $50, third got you $25. If you got your car in a magazine and the sticker was in a proper location and visible in pictures, you could also get a check depending on the size and location of the picture (obviously a centerfold, cover, or main article pays out more than a mention with a 2"x3" in the back of the magazine). After you've won a bit, the contingencies help you recuperate some of the build costs, and if you're good enough to have earned those contingencies, you're now in a position to apply for sponsorship through companies.
