I have heard a super60 is not good for a d16 it has been dyno proven or something. Dont want to have a hard time getting it up to speed. Where do u think it spools. Bro...the t3 super 60 is an awesome turbo to use on a D.
I am currently using a super 60 on my stock motor, and its fully spooled by 3K w/ a 2.5" DP - 3" exhaust. I could only imagine on an open DP.
The questions you asked mean exactly the same thing.
Please, just do yourself a HUGE favor and search this...you cannot possibly be ready to jump into a project like this...not to be a dick or anything.

Why not wait another pay period and pick up a Garret T3/T4 from a reputable company for $300 more?

THe only way the super60 is proven bad on a D16 is if they try making 500whp with 10psi. Find a tuner that can make a 2.5bar or 3bar MAP sensor work on your car (which means any competant tuner), and you'll be fine to 20 to 27psi, respectively. The super60 will make over 300whp and not lag bad - if you decide to run it above 10psi.
The 57trim T4 compressor in that turbo can do as much as 500whp...but you won't see boost until 5000rpm on a D16 with a stock head. *THAT* is why so many people say the t3 sucks and the t3/t04 is awsome. There are more internet racers around than you would think. Peak numbers are for getting high trap numbers.
I'll help make this an economics lesson:
[$550 new Garrett T3] + [$1000 new Garrett GTxx] - [$250 from selling used Garrett T3] = $1300
[$230 new Ching Chong T3/T04] + [$1000 new Garrett GTxx] - [$0 from throwing junk turbo out] = $1230
Now maybe you can sell the cheap turbo afterwards because its still good, but don't expect to get much for it. For whatever you hope to get for selling it later, is that really worth the time and agrevation? I don't think so. I *do* know that a used Garrett super60 T3 will sell instantly on ebay for $250, >$300 if you try hard.

It basically just depends on what exhaust trim you decide to go with.
The Super 60 .63 a/r will be good for over 300whp w/o having to max the turbo out. The .48 a/r (my turbo) will be good to barely 300whp being maxed out.
However, to the OP, our point is that you can spend just a little bit more ($400-500) and get a good quality turbo that will last you a good while, depending on your tune.

if you're so insistent on buying a cheapo ebay turbo, at least send it to BLAAST to get it rebuilt! it will be like buying a BRAND NEW GARRETT for less check them out. i forgot where i read this on HT, but I have heard good things about the rebuilt ssac ****. http://www.blaastperformance.c...build do a search
if you are too cheap to send it to get rebuilt, and run a restrictor. seals will blow out quickly if you dont

that's a peice of crap.
a few guy's come at the shop with this kind of " chinese Kid assembled in basement with no tools turbo " and mainly... they are not balanced at all, with sometime miss aligned oil seal and bad oil ring gap wich lead to premature faillure.
I had luck once with those... in about 15 try... if you feel lucky.. give it a try....
