SC50 or Sc34?
I'm not sure which turbo I want here so I thought I'd give some general desires of how the turbo is to behave and see what you guys thought.
The turbo has to:
- be able to support 450hp. (400ish whp)
- have a T3 exhuast inlet flange
- hit at least 12psi by 4000rpm, though I'd like to see some spooling action at least by the low/mid 3000's such as a couple psi of boost. The earlier the better here though so long as it will pull hard to 7400rpm's.
-not cost over $700 to buy(this puts ball bearing out of the picture most likely)
Which one of these are more along the lines of what I want? The SC50 seems like since its rated at 450hp is would be stretching it to reach my 400whp goal. I'm afraid of how the sc34 would behave though spool wise since its rated at 545hp. What I do NOT want is a turbo that doesnt hit 12-15psi until 4500rpm or higher. My old turbo would hit that at 4000rpm, and it was about at my limit of acceptable laggyness. My old turbo was rated to 450hp and was a .57/.63 t3t4e setup for reference.
Also, what is the difference between the SC-5031E and SC-5027E? I see that the wheel exducer size is slightly larger on one, but they are still rated at the same HP? So you get more lag for no more power level ability? Or is there more there than that? The same can be said of the two SC34's available. Same HP rating, only one has a slightly larger wheel exducer size. I dont get why one would want more lag for no more power?
I'd ideally like personal experience from these two turbo users. Id prefer this experience be on a 1.8L motor, but all are welcome to reply since one can estimate the lag up or down a tad.
Thanks guys!

Re: SC50 or Sc34? (TurboMiata)
seems to be that the sc50 has the same compressor as a GT3071R. people have made 400 whp on that turbo. under $700 is pretty cheap for a sc50 though, not sure where u can find a price like that

I love my SC34. I get full boost by about 4.5k rpm. I want to eventually make around 450hp and I think the 34 will handle it nicely

looks like the same compressor wheel to me. Geoff concurred with my guess. this is just based off my eyecrometer though. so i could be wrong.

i'am interested in this too
i thought for a high hp application it is better to go with a bit bigger turbo because its more efficient so you produce more hp on less psi.
