Default Turbo and compression ratio

I don't know a whole lot about where turbo would be best used, but I'm trying to get some info here to make my decision about it. I have an LS, the B18A1 though not the B18B.

I hear from a LOT of people that the LS is the best Integra motor to boost but why? What makes lower compression better than say a higher compression VTEC motor? If higher compression makes more power wouldn't it make more sense that a GSR or a Type R would have greater gains than an LS?

I would appreciate someone clearing this up for me.

You will get more power with the higher compression... But be more prone to detination. So in theory you could run more boost on a lower compression motor and possably make more of a power gain.

As far as the ls being better I would wonder why all the pro teams use Vtec motors instead of ls engines. That is a whole other debate.

Theres no doubt that the VTEC motors are better to turbo as far as power is concerned.

On the other hand, people like the B18a/b mostly b though b/c it is much cheaper and will usually have more torque while still be safe. Most that use the LS motor are looking for a safe setup etc.

I personally like the torque of the LS, I almost make as much torque as hp.

It all depends on your goals and how deep your waller is.

That's interesting. I had some thoughts on detonation but I wasn't sure.

As for now I am building my engine N/A and getting stronger parts to withstand higher rpm's so hopefully if/when I do get a turbocharger I can run some good boost.

Thanks guys that really cleared things up.

I am running 9.5:1 b16a3 14 psi daily and love it to death...the lower the compression the better but just dont go TO low or then it will bog...for instance my 8.5:1's were a pain on the street
