'Someone' is full of ****. Do turbo Porsches and turbo Volvo's only go on short trips? I saw a Porsche Turbo from Mexico the other day, and I'm in FL... what does that tell you?

if your not boosting it should drive like a stock car if it's tuned right. as long as your not boosting 5th gear all the time you'll be fine

it's fine unless your car is not setup correctly. If it breaks a lot... I recommend fixing the problems before going on a road trip.

I've taken my turbo car(s) on lots of road trips....

I drove my T67 car 10 hours each way to go snowboarding this winter winter, with 3 other people in the car, our boards strapped to the top, and clothes, etc, mashed in the back.

I drove my turbo Civic to Florida for vacation last year, 12 hours each way, drove around a week in Florida, and even slapped on some slicks I brought and ran it at Speedworld a few passes. Not one problem.
