turbo on b18b1...setting timing?
how far back should the timing be running a turbo on an ls motor. i've heard that some people leave their timing stock if they are boosting under 10psi. i've also heard that for every pound of boost you run...set your timing back .5 a degree.
what are you guys setting it at?

This depends what your engine management setup is. Leave it at 16 degrees if your running management and let the computer take timing out under boost. Factory computer either requires you to pull back base timing at the distributor or run some kind of boost retard unit like the msd.

you cant take out timing per lb with the distributor, best bet is to go hondata or similar and do it the right way. static timing adjustment sucks as your only timing adjusting tool.

yeah, but for some people, that is all they can afford. they have to do whatever gets them buy until they can get the good ****.
i have mine set at 14 degrees running 8psi and i don't have any problems.

chip your ecu for ghettodyne and burn a prom to retard per psi.. all this can be done for under 100 bucks.. that's going to be my solution, however you have to run an obd1 or obd0 ecu .. as far as i know that's all ghettodyne supports right now.

Remember this though. There is no universal amount of timing per psi to take out. You have to take into consideration the flow aspects of the turbocharger being used. One turbo might flow way more air at 8 psi than a smaller unit. With that being said, more air=more potential for power. More power means more cylinder pressure, meaning you might need to take more timing out with a turbo pushing the same amount of air at 8 psi as a smaller one at 15 psi. Since every combination is different, one setup might require more or less timing at the same psi. The best way is to just bite the bullet and shell out the money for quality engine management system and good tuning.

Drive it and listen for detonation. If you hear it, stop, and retard your distributor a little bit. Test and listen again. When it goes away, you're done. If you just listen to the sound of your motor you can gain so much info on how it's running.
