Icon2 Turbo advice

Hey guys,

So my friend won a turbo kit from ebay: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Turbo-Kit-ci...vip=true&rt=nc

Story behind this...
He was bidding on a b18c3 and this turbo kit.
he won both.. now he only wants the b18c3 and wants to sell me the turbo kit..

I have a 94 del sol vtec. b16 all stock engine..

my questions.

1. is this kit a good buy for the price?
2. will this work on my stock motor without replacing any internals?
-if not. what do i need to replace in order for this to work..

the car is a daily driver. i think 7.5psi is a lot. im thinking maybe 5 is good for daily??

what do you guys think>?

advice would be greatly appreciated.

thank you

Its better than most of the **** you find on eBay. The price is fair, but its not exactly a complete setup.

First and foremost, you need to do research before diving head first into a project like this. Start at the Forced Induction FAQ at the top of the forum. Second, goals need to be in terms of horsepower, generally whp (at the wheels). The notion of psi determining your goals is the cardinal beginners mistake. For a stock B series engine, you can safely make mid 300whp but I would aim a bit lower to start. This Greddy kit will barely break 280-300whp if you push it. At your arbitrary 5psi goal, you would struggle to make 200whp

Do more research.

Do you think it is more cost effective if I just assemble a kit than buying this kit?

That's a really good price considering some turbos can cost 3 times what that entire kit costs.

It's Garrett so it's gonna be of the highest quality. It's internally wastegated, comes with a bov, charge pipes, intercooler, manifold, manual boost controller. You'll need oil lines, oil taps, gauges, an ecu (Hondata S100 or 300). Other misc. things like intake filter.

You'll spend maybe another 400-600 to complete it. Shoot for 250-270 whp and go from there.

It's a Garrett / Mitsu hybrid turbocharger. Just as a matter of correction. It is still manufactured VERY well.

*EDIT* - Not only is this not a GReddy kit, this is an XS Engineering kit. one of the best companies of its "day". This is not to be confused with XS POWER, the Ebay of Ebay kits. This is using a full Garrett V1/v2 turbocharger that has been tied to a 5 bolt turbine housing that is internally gated. This is very good to use on a honda using the stage 2 exhaust wheel.

This IMHO is not a bad way to start, and its adaptable and reusable. I say march on.

I ran 12 pounds of boost on my stock internals Type R (considering the stock high compression)

The motor lasted and performed well until I decided to build the inside.

Bottom line: Is you are not peeling out and abusing the motor at every stop light, you can get away with 10-12 pounds of boost with little or no problems.
