Default Nitrous safety issues

I have the zex kit on my car and am running the 55 shot at this time. I was wanting to go with the 65 shot and the manual says to retard the timing 2-3 degrees. Now, is it worth buying the MSD 6AL to retard the timing only when I am using the nitrous or should i just retard it off of the distributor and run like that? Should have posted this here in the first place instead of the ITR forum. Any help will be appreciated.
