Default try solving this problem

Well my motor is finally boosted. It put down 308 hp to the wheels on a great dyno pull. Well it was great until the boost started surging and the power spiked downward. It keeps on doing this now. I'll hit vtec and shortly afterward the power just seems like it turns off. Sometimes it surges and sometimes the bov just releases all the boost. I changed the ignitor thinking it was an ignition problem, didnt work. The AFR doesnt change at these surge points. Boost doesnt spike at these surge points. All vacuum lines are fine. The power dip seems to only happen under heavy loads. I have an AEM EMS. Any thoughts?

My setup

GE sleeved GSR
10:1 cr je pistons
crower rods
stock head, ignition
AEM EMS
750cc injectors
Man. boost controller
t3/t4 turbo
drag mani
tial wg
turbo xs RFL bov
91 octane

The 308 run was at only 8 psi and id like to see what this car can do when it doesnt have this phantom "boost release"

Vacuum leak? Sounds like a problem with your BOV or WG. Check your lines that's all I can say from what you've told me. Does it rev up and down. Is it like this when it's driven normally or when you get on it? Check your plugs and wires. Very curious never heard that problem before.

it surges up in rpm. there are no vacuum leaks. I am getting a little frustrated. I may open up the head and check to see if anything is wrong. I just replaced the bov and it has the same problem

This is the third time I've heard of this problem, and all three had the AEM EMS. I don't know if that's what's causing it, but it sounds like it is. From what you described your seeing a boost spike, and your EMS is freaking out and pouring on the fuel. I could be wrong though. How are your DP and WG-dumptube set-up? I think your just spiking, but it depends on how every thing is set-up. Which manual boost controller are you using? You should have set the AEM up to control boost because they are designed to be a do everything system.

its just a little **** mbc nothing special, works fine with stock ecu's. I dont understand. And now the ecu wont even start the damn car. The AEM EMS is the biggest headache i have ever experienced

Ditch it and go with Hondata. I've heard nothing, but problem from the AEM. Soon I'll have my standalone released (I'm waiting on a patent.), and it runs totally indepedent with it's programming style. All you do is set where your A/F ratio shoul be at, and it does the rest. It'll total revolutionize tuning for everyone. It's going to be huge. I can't wait myself because I want to run the new prototype on my car. I don't want to compete with Hondata because that 's one hell of a flexible format.

i used the map for the 440cc turbo gsr from the aem site. it is the v94 calibration. I modified it so it would idle with the 750's and it ran one good time but then continues to worsen. I need to check my timing tables i think. It doesnt start any more.

I think you should go to the v89 440 map instead of that v94 sence its a lot more solid and doesn't have as many problems as the v94 your currently running...

I would at least try that before you go selling that thing and loosing money on it..

But that is just my oppinion

id say only ditch AEM if you just dont have the time....

i bet you people were saying the same thing when hondata came out.....it takes time to work all the kinks out and get a feel for the systems....

Falcon has been having really good results from his Aem ems......dont give up on it yet.. IMO

Work with Falcon with your's to see if you can figure out what it's doing, or ditch it for Hondata/
Mine isn't ready for street use just yet it has a few more weeks befroe I can let it go. Simulations and testing take a lot of time and it hasn't been in for patent approval yet. Sorry, but it'll be cheap enough later when you need it, ok? It's outperformed just about everything on the market today, and it's cheap like the Hondata.
