Default Tranny issue

I'm not having any luck posting in Tech so I am posting here.

I have a 96 LS tranny with a quaiffe LSD, it seems like something went wrong during installation. the speedo gear that turns the gear on the VSS is not sticking out far enough to turn the VSS gear. how is even this possible? here is a visual aide

Number 6 isnt reaching out far enough to turn the VSS. the Diff fits in a groove so how is this possible?

the thread where i learned what i did. but basicly, remove counter & mainshaft, put diff in the car, without axle seals. and then use your feeler gauges to see how the tolerances are when you put the cases together. honda makes a slew of different shims for those areas, so you can remove yours and just split the difference, or test with the shims you have and see if you have extra slack.

you are sure the VSS was pushed down all the way right? its not binding? i know htat's simple but.. sometimes its the easiest **** that we expletive up on and then we end up pulling **** apart for a week.
