Default Tranny for boost?

Right now i have a b16 tranny on my ls vtec. Im building my motor right now and going to make somewhere around high 400 to low 500whp. I can trade my friend for his ls for my b16. Should i trade or just keep my b16? This is my daily driver also.

Your tranny will handle that power, so it's up to you really on what gearing you want. LS will probably get you some better gas mileage cruising daily.

You're going to hate that LS 3rd gear. I know I did...

Gas miles is not a problem i just want to know what would be good for my setup. Also i have another question. I have a darton sleeved block that im building with cp 9.5:1 cr, eagle rods, acl bearings, etc. My head is completely stock just has itr cams. Stock intake mani. I still have a log mani cuz i still have ac/ps. A 60trim, .60ar .48hotside turbo. 3" dp. Will i be able to make 500whp if i can? or will the log n stock head limit me?

i would keep the b16 transmission. you won't make 500whp, a 60 trim cannot do it.

the b16 is fine. If you want lower rpm on the highway you can drop in an LS 5th gear. If yu want a little more MPH per gear you can drop in the 4.266 final drive as well.

About 420whp max, especially with that smaller turbine housing. This is power to the wheels we're talking about here. Keep your B16 transmission.

There's no real such thing. You start getting into that power on 93 octane, or E85 or whatever, you're looking at 61lbs/min (GT35, GT3540S, SC61, 6262, etc..) Big sized bad boys from what you have.

Crawl before you walk. Change that turbine side out to a .63A/R for a bit more midrange and see how you actually like actually DRIVING 400+whp for a daily driven purpose.. I'll betcha you won't go any larger than what you have for a nice while.

i can cntest to what Mac is saying. 400whp in a street car is alot to handle if you've never driven it before in a FWD chassis. It doesnt get old either !

Stay with your b16 transmission. If this car is going to be used at the track as its main purpose, the short gears will help you stay in your powerband....I ran 11.9's on a stock b16a2 setup Act 6 puck sprung no LSD stock axles on a 60-1 turbonetics 93 pump gas and 2 gallons of 110 when at the track for a little detonation prevention and the response in the street was magnificent....the Ls gearing for boost is old technology ppl applied to laggy turbos from yesteryear to compensate for spool time......like said earlier in the thread if the short 5th gear is not tolerable, swap out for an ls 5th or better final drive....

I have had some of issues with sleeves and syncros becoming damaged... I am hoping to resolve those issues in my GSR Transmission with LS 5th gear by adding a 50/50 mix of Torco MTF/RTF and the Speed Factory Modified Shift Assembly.
