Default Torque wrench

I would like a nice torque wrench that would be able to last the better part of the rest of my natural life. i have had a sears craftsman torque wrench for 3 years and it has a plastic adjuster / spring asembly and the thing started acting up and finally took a **** on me. i've seen the mac tools/snapon ones that are all metal with the graduated markings on the bottom, but i am afraid those are way too pricey for me...

i know this isnt specifically on topic but you guys wrench a lot and know more than most...so any recommendations are welcome. maybe i need a snapon/mac tool one if its not too pricey?

Joe

For a "cheap" torque wrench I like the Husky ones at Home Depot

go back to sears. when i got mine the had the one you are talking about, but they also had several more the got nicer.

and a tip, make sure you get the kind that gives when you reach spec. i have the kind where you read the meter, i dont lie it as much.

Pretty much all their hand tools have the life-time warrenty, just the torque wrenches do not.

get both... 3/8 and a 1/2.

I had a craftsman too for around 4 years that has crapped out as well, plastic adjuster broke. Now I'm using a cornwell tools wrench that's half the price of a snap on and basically is a replica of snap on's. Eh, it'll do until I can write it off in my taxes.

While we're on the subject, anyone know of a good [decently priced] brand of torque wrench that reads in inch-pounds? I have my nice big Husky torque wrench for foot-pounds, but I'm wanting to get one that reads inch-pounds for assembling smaller things to spec.

i got my craftsman one for a graduation present from my gf's dad (best present ever) and my brother ended up using for a hammer when i was up at school, it still works but the handle doesn't click on the readings...so i have to be careful to not twist my hand too much when i use it, other than that..it works great!

I'll stick with craftsman

only way I would ever buy a snap-on even though they are great tools, if i was sponsored by them and they were free.... cuz they are bling bling costly.... my pockets are already empty

i have both the craftsman and Harbor frieght ones.

over 2 years with the craftsman and a lil over 1 year with the HF one. Still working good.

I suggest waiting for a sale at HF or Sears. Both have treated me well

As I understand it, they don't warranty anything with moving parts for life.

Buy a new one and take the old one back in the same package.

i used my friends craftsmen to torque bolts to several specs and it matched up fine. but yes, i should have killed my brother for using it as a hammer

Snap-On digital torque wrench!

Auto calibration everytime you turn it on, adjustable with just the push of a button, and it vibrates and beep when the bolt/nut is torqued to spec!

Only downside is it's expensive. However, Craftsman torque wrenches only carry a 90 day warranty and I have broken about 3 or 4 of those.

harbor freight one is under $12.00

i compared to with a snap on i have...and it gave the same TQ. I also compared it with a BRAND NEW digital snap on (not that super bling one though) and it was the same.
