need help to run low 13's
i have a custom turbo set up for my 94 gsr
my goal is to run low 13's all day and if i cant do that i want at least mid 13's
i used own a itr/eg and needed to go faster so i switched to the darkside.
i have hondata for my fuel management i've been searching around and it seems like 7-8 psi will get me like high 13's
my motor is bone stock and i want to boost safely
i read up on thicker headgaskets and apr headstuds and i can boost to like 10psi on a stock gsr. is that good enuff for low or mid 13's?
i also have some drag radials tires by kuhmo MX, i know they are for autox but i figure they are better then street tires.
custom turbo set up
i believe the turbo is garett t3t4
rev hard manifold
2.5inch piping and downpipe
greddy bov, drag 3 intercooler, tial wastegate 38mm
aem fpr
apexi world sport w/ itr cat
440cc injectors
soon to get act clutch
so any advice from you turbo freaks out there?

This is my 100% honest opinion.
7-8psi in a GSR should be mid to low 13s no doubt about it, but if you want low 13s-high 12s on street tires no doubt about it, you are going to have to find a way to get some traction. This is what i would do to save money....
Get DSM 450cc Injectors. save you about $150.
Get a exhaust from kteller.com that should save you a $100-150.
Get a 1g DSM bov (save you $150)
get rid of hondata and save yourself $300-700 and just get uberdata or turboedit.
With that money saved you should be able to get an LSD(could be LCD, i always **** it up...) and you will have traction and then you will make better times. Honestly those part changes wouldnt even effect your performance in the least and should save you enough money for an LSD

250-300whp should net you into high 12's-mid 13's easily. all you need is to learn how to drive and get some good slicks. traction is your #1 enemy when it comes to the track.

pretty stock turbo GSR in EK Civic Coupe I run consistant 13.3 @10 psi. 270 whp. Street tires. I'm looking into why I'm only @ 270 with 10psi.........
with a better take off and 60 foot, I could hit 13 flat.

Tuning does make all the difference. With a good tune you can run 10-11 lbs of boost safely and that should be enough to get you mid 13's even if your driving sucks the dog.

Depeding on turbo size, and other small details 9-10 psi would net you around 275-300 hp. Also forget the headgasket and all that, you dont need it to run 10 psi safely. You have hondata so find a tuner, aim for around 280-290 hp, get some Bfg's, and as long as your a descent driver you should run low 13's all day long.
Also somethig i noticed isn't the Apex Ws, small and real restrictive? You may want to upgrade atleast your exhuast.

Nice response, however i dont think it pertains to this guy's question. There is no need to cut out the Hondata out of the equation. Dont start the uberdata/ghettodyne vs. Hondata type of war here. It's been done, argued, discussed, and came to the agreement that to each his own.
No need to act like a child because someone doesnt agree with your tuning opinion.
Back to the original question here.... he has the Hondata already, why junk it for something else?

now some of u say i can run 10psi with juss the proper tunning with hondata?

Wow this is the first time i've ever heard someone recommend ditching hondata for something less......
How much could a used hondata go for? Honestly...New they start at $495...This has to be some of the worst advice (not to mention illogical) i've heard lately...

Yea, i could see the point of you bashing uberdata if it didnt put down the numbers. look above for the numbers.
Any more half assed propaghnda(sp)? If you like hondata, thats great. You can sell em, tune em, use em. i dont care. the guy is asking how to get into the low 13's and im trying to help him out without him having to fork over another $800-900 for a LSD. if he can swap some parts and only have to save $250 or so for a LSD, i think ive helped him out.
Jesus christ, another person on this bullshit hondata bangwagon. Uberdata is the same damn thing minus the internal datalogging and the RTP capabilities. Ask some people like BBKA how long it took him to tune his uberdata. I know 94goldjungsr said it took him about a half an hour to get a 12:1 AFR with tuning uberdata. Im trying to find ways to save this guy some money so he can get his goals without having to spend an extra $800. Plain and simple. Selling the RC injectors for $200 and buying some DSMs would save him $150. Getting rid of the hondata would save him $500!!!!!!!. thats nearly an LSD. LSD>>>>hondata and RC injectors. plain and simple.
In response to your exhaust, you are going to kill your numbers using a small exhaust. you have to use a 2.5" or bigger DP/Exhaust to make decent numbers with a turbo.

I agree with you, and you make good points as to how to make this work with a budget.
Simply put, the intangible differences with Hondata are huge. Having a customer service department, tuners all over the country, an easy and well designed interface, tons of options, constantly updated software and hardware, add-on modules, all kinds of support, etc...youre not just buying the product, youre buying into the national network of support.
Its not about a bandwagon, its about what works. And yes, uberdata has been effective on some peoples setups, but one thing you have to keep in mind is all these people are tuning the car themselves or knows someone who has experience using uberdata. For many people, they want an experienced tuner who they can take their car to and get it done right. When you talk about running uberdata, or any other less-frequent system like F.A.S.T for example, you are seriously limiting your options in terms of tuners. The # of successful, experienced (not just guys "who can tune") Hondata/AEM tuners around the country is incredible.
You make good points and I hope more people begin posting things "against the norm" like you did since it keeps things fresh. Just please elaborate on your opinion...the last post you made should have been included in the first post, rather than just a general statement.

well put good sir. but i have a rebuttle
I'm pretty sure the person who tuned BBKA's car in the post above had no prior experiance of using uberdata. He basically followed the simple FAQ/How to make a basemap and fine tuned from that point on. Anyone should be able to run uberdata in their car. It isnt very difficult to understand the concepts to get a solid tune. I would never suggest uberdata for someone wanting big numbers, but low 13s isnt big numbers. Uberdata can easily handle something of the sort. Also i would like to note that with uberdata, someone is just about writing a new script or changing something weekly, if not daily. There is a full support forum and such aswell. Of coarse this isnt meant for everyone, but this option should be closely looked at if you want a certain amount of hp/paticular numbers and have to stick to a strict budget.
One last thing, with hondata you cant just change something as updates come out. you need to go to your tuner and either pay or just even driving over there can be a hassle. Uberdata you can change whatever yuo want as long as you have a chip burner.

There are pros and cons that have been debated in other threads, but the bottom line is Uberdata offers no support compared to Hondata. Both products cater to two different people.
Never mind that, but a lot of us are not comfortable just trusting our motors longevity with anyone who thinks they are tuning by making A/F 12:1. There is a lot that goes into tuning that many of us believe you can ONLY know with years of experience with these setups, never mind a particular tuning device. Sure, mathematics may tell you the probability of whats going on, but experience and knowledge are the only attributes that matter...physics and math may say one thing, but if the guy who is tuning my car says he has witnessed the exact opposite happen under those conditions, guess who Im going with? Bottom line, if someone has to read an FAQ to get my car idleing, I sure as hell dont want them tuning my car.
My point is, the support that the mainstream systems offer is unparallelled. And for many of us, that is more important than even the features of the product.

im coming out with a new product called stupidata.
there wont be much aftermarket support, and i'll probably dissapear and leave the software to someone else to take care of but if you're really dumb you might not notice.
in the software package you get a nice blank cd, in which though my basic yet easy to follow instructions you can create your own rom modifying program realtime! yes you might have the ability to create your own piggyback!
ugh.

i'm not on no hondata bandwagon. I just feel selling the stuff he has now will not benifit him like you think...
he'll need to tune the uberdata (btw i've never bashed it yet) too. If he's capable of doing the tuning himself more power to him.
He has the tuning softwear, so he should use it.
Here's a cheaper option, keep everything and learn to control the power he has....13's on street tires is a breeeze....i've done it with no problem.

You make some excellent points.
If Hondata is good because it has a wide support network and a lot of people throw bins around, then how is it more likely that by using Hondata you're going to positively influence someone to get their car tuned? I find it far more likely that a Hondata user with no experience in tuning is just going to find a basemap and run that for years to come, especially when you consider that there's a cost associated with each and every retune. I'd argue that Uberdata is better in that case because it's going to make whomever owns the system to take a closer look at what they're actually running in terms of a tune, rather than just saying "oh, I have the official Hondata basemap, my car will be fine for 6 months until I can afford tuning, let's go race".
Uberdata owners are forced into involvement with the community of people running Uberdata. We ARE the support team. Problems and bad tunes become community knowledge and the means to achieve a better tune becomes community knowledge also. Being part of that is far more worthwhile IMO than paying for tech support and the buying into a community of professional paid tuners who will make your car run great... for a price.
There's no further costs associated with uberdata. You pay once and you get ongoing support from the creator, many dedicated users, free .bin files to play with, and through your involvement it's highly likely the product will become improved for others.
Ya, both have their advantages!
I do have time to F around with Uberdata because my car is wussy and I have no race commitments. If I had a race car or a ragged-edge street car, maybe I'd need to start with a more stable userbase.
