As far as I could see everybody with a topmounted turbo runs it without an airfilter.
Now I wonder if that wouldn´t support an exessive cylinder wear.
What do you think or are there any experiences?

that is simply the case because you typically can't fit a filter on. i'm sure if you've seen the pics, it's very tight. most i have seen run a screen. it's a risk but not a lot of options.

Yes I saw the pics and I know that there is not enough room for a filter.
I have the same problem in my EG but don´t want to accept that situation for my car. Momently I´m at modifying my engine bay to find a place for the filter.
I spent too much money in my engine to accept to get such a lot of dirt into my combustion chambers.
Any other oppinions or ideas?

Post a pic of your setup and then maye someone can give you advice of how to run one. Also I have seen where some people will run piping to a fliter off of a top mount

There are many different types of filters out there, some short/fat, some long skinny.
I needed a filter that was only 5 inches long, and HAD to have a 20 degree angle to it to fit in front of my radiator. I went on K&N website and they have all the dimensions for EVERY filter they make. I traced a few on cardboard with different degree angles and held them up to my car to see which one fit.
The fit was perfect.
Maybe one of those small mushroom filters that HKS or someone like that makes could fit there??
Or like I said above, maybe a long skinny one that has like a 20 or 30 degree bend on it to curve behind the headlight on your topmount?

HAve you ever noticed disadvantages or problems?
Any experiences in excessive cylinderwall wear?
Any experiences in excessive cylinderwall wear?
ya, i do know that it sucks in a small amount of dust, which helps put scrape marks on the cyl wall, and reduce the ring seal..... i try not to get on it on dirt /rockyroads
the turbo is in great shape.
the turbo is in great shape.
and in a few months you'll be back here crying how your car blew up, and it will all point to your lack of intellegence to not running a filter and bragging about it.
not only are you ruinning the motor but also the turbo. the blads are being and blasted and are being worn.
