Would you run this filter?
This is the only filter I could find that would fit with my current setup. The fact that its foam is kind of disconcerting, Im alittle worried that it wont filter out the fine stuff, and it will end up harming my new turbo. In order to run a K&N style I would have to reroute my charge piping and make piping to mount a K&N away from the turbo somewhere. What does everyone think?

I believe ben at importparts had a deal going on those type of filters about a year ago or so for like 25 bucks a piece.
Always keep in mind that you get what you pay for. That filter doesn't look too appealing to me though... but at least its kRom3!
Take a shot of the engine bay with the turbo on and maybe we can help you design an intake pipe that will not require as much fab work as you mentioned.

Re: Would you run this filter? (PrecisionH23a)
I was going to flat black the chrome.
Here is my engine bay with my old turbo setup. I will be replacing the manifold, turbo, and downpipe, but the thing is I have the compressor on the drivers side, so there isnt alot of room to mess around with.
The more I read the more I worry about the foam filter...

You should be fine with that fiter. Think about it, If you run a screen, your turbo still doesn't break. This deff. filters more than a screen. I am running on of these on my car and have had no problems yet.

Yeah, 14b w/ HF, no PS or AC.
I have decided to make an intake pipe and run a K&N. Thanks everyone.

Imitation or not, seems as there was good results from lots of people using these sort of filter. No problem there?

a buddy of mine Dustin (12pSI) had one of those on his turbo, and when it spooled, it pulled the foam into the turbo and slowly ate away at it

So it might just be best to get a K&N filter? I was trying to figure out which one to get, but they have like 1000 different sizes. What part #'s have worked for everyone else? I was thinking this one might be a good one. http://www.knfilterchargers.co...-3580

A local shop sells them for $10.00 here. On an SR20DET 20whp was gained by taking the filter off. I would go with a K&N. BoostedHybridCivic picked up a 4" (S compressor cover) K&N filter yesterday for $31.00.

^^^^^^ hes 200% right
the only 2 filters i would trust is K&N and APEXi
i got with K&N since they got more years under their belt and they got all kinds of freaking sizes and shapes

To solve this problem you can run a piece of window screen secured with a hose clamp under the filter. Personally, in my experience with carburated engines, these foam-style filters are the worst to use because both heat and chemicals (fuel/coolant/etc.) deteriorate them rapidly and they break apart into your engine.
I'd probably run a straight piece of screen before I used that style filter on any of my vehicles.

Re: Would you run this filter? (Archidictus)
Just a quick question about this. Why does everyone and their uncle insist on mounting a filter directly to the compressor inlet, especially one that has even less capacity than the stock filter? Is it just for the look-cool factor? Why not route the air inlet to a location where a) it isn't sucking in hot air, b) it won't suck in water, and c) you can use an air filter that is actually big enough to do its job? Someone please explain it 'cause I just don't get it!?!

Re: Would you run this filter? (tjbizzo)
Space constraints. If the comp housing is facing the passenger side, it can be tricky to jimmy a pipe in there to put the filter anywhere. Charge pipe, radiator, AC lines, all that **** gets in the way.
