Too much boost? Motor ticking
Well guys, I don't have a honda but rather a Volvo.
Here's the story: A few weeks ago I was on my way home, not driving hard at all. Shortly before I reached my house, I put my foot down in second and ran it up to 6k.
All seemed fine until I started the car up the next morning, a loud raspy ticking was coming from the top of the motor. I warmed the car up and drove very carefully to Volvo (5 min drive). They diagnosed a collapsed lifter. I had them change the O-rings first as this had been suggested my a few people. Noise was the same. Next all 20 lifters were replaced. There is still a fairly loud tapping noise now, a different sound than before.
I'm wondering if anyone has any idea what the problem might be. While the top of the head was off, they checked the cams etc..it does idle very smoothly but with the tick.
My lifters never tapped before and now that they were all replaced why would they tap? Is there some sort of break in period?
I'm starting to wonder if it's a valve seat or valve spring. What are the signs of problems with the valves? From what I understand, high boost can stop the valves from properly re-seating themselves.
Sorry for such a long post...

Re: (BlackT5)
I took my camcorder to the shop and got some footage of the noise it's making.
had to delete the link...imagestation was going to cancel my account for directly linking the video to the forums.

Yer avatar is freaky as hell, lol. Yea, the link is working.
Wow, yea, that sounds horrible. Did they replace the valves or just the lifters? You can't change the valves usually without pulling the head. Something's definately wrong though (like you didn't already know that )

Re: (pollito)
most people i've spoken to say bent rod. Most likely more than one. The rods and the head gaskets seem to be the weak link in the Volvo motors, they can't handle the boost. I was running 19 psi on a bigger turbo though.
Too bad aftermarket pistons & rods are lik 10x more expensice than what you honda guys have to pay. I'm so ****** jealous.

put a screw driver in the spark plug holes and turn the motor over by hand. note the height of the screw drivers when at top dead center. If a rod it bent it will be lower than the rest.
BTW, it sounds just like my engine did when it had a bent rod.
