Default Loud ticking comming from my motor.

There's a loud "ticking" noise comming from my motor. It happend after I got on the boost. I'm Thinking it may be a dropped valve? What things could make a loud ticking noise like that? Thanks, Ramsey.

how loud is it?

I would suggest doing compression/leakdown tests asap to see if you have a problem.

if you dropped a valve you would definatly hear more than a ticking sound and that **** would prolly not run. Last time i heard a tick was when i went from 3rd to 2nd somehow and over revved it to like 11-12k. Yeah she ticked nicely and ended up discovering #3 rod journal went out of round.

Also, I was fighting with my girlfriend while typing this and forgot to mention that I mis shifted when I didn this. I went from 3rd at 7k rpms to second. I don't know if it happend right then because I had my music on and both windows down, but I noticed it later when I answered a phone call and rolled up the windows and turned the music down. Maybe a spun rod bearing? I can use my camcorder on my phone to try and record the sound if you think it will help. I will just need to find a way to post it up.

time for the commpression - leakdown test and go from there. your more that likely gonna have to at minimum pull your head off if something is wrong

Yeah, I guess I'll do a compression test. If a valve just needs adjusted, is that hard to fix, or am I still gonna have to pull the head off. I read in my haynes manuel that you could adjust the valves on a non vtec motor by just pulling the valve cover off, or do you think it will be more extensive than just an adjustment?

Adjusting valves is making the clearences juuuust right. You have a bent valve if your valve is damaged, which can not be adjusted to seal.

Damn, that sucks. The car doesn't feel any different power wise, if I bent a valve, would the car feel different? I assume repairing the valve would mean pulling the head correct? I really don't wanna have to do that. It doesn't seem like a job for someone who is just learning.

Yup, looks like my build will be ahead of schedule. Kinda sucks though because if I have to do this sooner instead of later, I'm gonna have to leave some things out that I wanted to do, i.e sleeves, new valves and other stuff for the head etc. I don't want to just put the b16 head on, and not build the bottom. Will 400 whp be ok on the block if I don't sleeve it. I've talked to a few people that said the block would be ok untill 450 without sleeves, but I wanted to get other peoples opinions. As I said, I'm going to have to cut some things out now.
