Default tiny metal shavings in oil.. damage my turbo?

hi.. i found tiny copper shavings in my oil everytime i do an oil change.. i mean they are real little.. but they are visible.. i believe they are from bearings... 98b18c1... the motor has been rebuilt 13000 miles ago.. and i've put about 7000 miles on it (plus a 700 miles trip, drove on it for over a year) and it always had the small shavings when i oil changed.. there is no ticking in motor or noticeable difference in power. .and i do often punch it hard.. the size of the shavings have not got any larger..

im in the process of installing my turbo.. and since the motor has been so reliable to me for so long.. i didn't think about it but, will the little shavings mess up my turbo?

how many miles are on the engine since it was rebuilt?

and yes any contamination to your oil will cause damage to your chra.

ooh 13k miles and still copper in your oil is not a good sign....

I would pull the pan and inspect the bearings if you want your engine to live long time...

I always use a nitrous filter on my turbo oil feed, ever since a little piece of Grey Permatex got in my oil feed line and ruined a BB CHRA. The nitrous filters are a fine metal screen basket strainer that will trap small chunks while allowing good flow. They also come with 3AN and 4AN fittings on the end of them, so it's easy to just get another short length of oil feed line and put the filter between the two. It's also easy to open them up and clean out the basket from time to time.

hey man went through the same thing and many turbos. talked to arturbo and the guys at precision many times. it should be the bearings, look at your mains or check your oil pump. i thought it was my oil pressure gauge also cause it would read fine and then get lower. basically it was my oil pump. the pump would hardly spin, cutting little metals pieces off. it heated up the crank and spun/pushed the #1 cyclinder rod bearing out. in my oil pan it looked silver and thick. hope some of this helps.

oil pressure gauge is a priority. You shouldn't have any bearing material in your oil. Have you cut open the oil filter at all and see whats inside? Honestly i would stop driving the car until you figure out exactly whats going on. As for harming the turbo it depends where your feed is coming from and if you have an inline filter. If your running an oil sandwich adapter it should be fine since that oil is filtered.

i would also send out a sample of oil for oil analysis and see just how much metal is present in the oil. $20 and results the day they receive your oil seems fair to find out what exactly it is.

nice... do you have any pics on what the nitrous filter looks like? and do it put it on both ends of the oil feed line? (from the block to line and from line to turbo?).. yeah im going to take a sample of my oil and send it in.. and when i oil change im going to cut open my oil filter..

the thing is, when ever i read about someone's bearings going out the problem quickly grows worse.. but i've been daily driving my car and on this motor for over a year and activating vtec routenely.. and everything still runs and sounds fine..

i think im going to try the nitrous filters and slap the turbo on.. and if something blows i have a spare ls block i was planning on ls-v turbo anyway.. i don't want to spend the time and money breaking my gsr block apart when im going to do that anyway with my ls block..

im going to be running low psi 7lbs or so.. so i just need a way to run it on my gsr for awhile.. i routenely change my oil 3 months or 3000 miles and use oem filters and have a magnetic drain plug..(which does not catch any of the copper shavings)

any other suggestions to filter my oil better?

Worked great with my turbo for a couple of years. You could always put your oil pressure sender after it if you wanted to be sure it was flowing correctly.

I can't find any pics of it on the car, and my motor is currently in pieces, hydro-locked it in some recent flooding, dropping it off at RLZ tomorrow to get it fixed.
