Default Timing under boost

I was over a friends house tonight playing with his hondata 4b and wideband. We fix a slight lean condition around 4500-5200 and moved vtec up to 5600 to help a dip around 5200. My timing at 16psi (or whatever hondata uses) was at 2 degrees and we moved it up to 17 degrees. Is 17 to much for 16psi? What are you guys running for timing under full boost.

Are you on pump gas? What static compression ratio? What turbo?

I wouldn't run any more than 20 degrees advance. If it still pings, 16-17 might be safe

i like to run a little more timing. 22 deg. at full boost is probably the most i would run. I gained 2 mph in the 1/4 adding 2 degrees of timing (24 total) on c16. But i would stay with 18-22.

Holy crap, I need that boost retard badly. At 10psi, I'm at nearly 44 degrees!

Jeez....luckily I have my EGT to see how long I can boost for. Boosting for 3 seconds at a time sucks. But at least I can drive now that I have a radiator.

your statement makes no sense. 44 degrees is 44 degrees, no matter what your EGT is, thats WAY too much. Remember, EGT's are somewhat slow to react...

I thought your EGT's rise quicker when your timing is too far advanced under boost. My friend who has my setup is running a MSD BTM and can boost for much longer than I can.

I was always led to believe that lower timing yields lower EGT temps...especially since I have a stock ignition and computer.

I'm at about 25 degrees at 8 psi. Thats about a 7 degree retard from my timing at atmospheric, at 11 psi I'm at about 22 degrees. I wasnt hearing any pinging but I've never really messed with this before so I dont really know what Im' doing. How does that sound?
