Default ... timing question with vafc hack

... i will be running the hack soon ::applause::... but i have yet another question...

from what i have searched... i need to retard the timing a little bit right?... 1 or 2 degrees?... so here's my question, i will be running 5-7 psi... is it really necessary for me since i am running low boost?... or will i be alright with stock timing?

... then if i have to retard, how do i retard the timing if i dont have adjustable cam gears?... distributor?... how?...

... and lastly (kinda off topic)... but how high can i SAFELY boost with stock internals on a gsr?... i am guessing 7-9 psi, too high?... lemme know...

...thanks in advance for everyone's help... i really appreciate it...!!!

I think about 3/4 of a degree per psi of boost is considered conservative. You could turn your distributor all the way towards the front of the car, but I'm not sure how much retard you can get from that. There is a limit to how much the distributor turns.

The cam timing is a separate issue from ignition timing. You don't need cam gears to adjust ignition timing. They are for adjusting cam timing.

I'm pretty sure the distributor will allow enough timing adjustment to render the car un-startable. If not, pull the dist, turn the rotor, and re-stab it!

HAHA re-stab it..... Anyway yes your distributor does have enough adjustment to " Render your car un-startable".

Ignition timing is the number of crankshaft degrees of rotation before piston top dead center that the spark plug fires.

Cam timing has to do with when the intake and exhaust valves open and close. Cam gears allow you to play with the amount of time during which both intake and exhaust valves are open at the same time (overlap).
