Default Question about dizzy timing!

Hey,
I have a turbo B16 running 0.5bar and a 0.059 Cometic headgasket.

I have been running stock 16* timing with this, but then someone told me it should be at about 13.5*

Is this correct to retard like this? My car seems to run richer according to my WB, and the exhaust note is a lot deeper now.

I was wondering if I should have advanced it to about 18.5* since I heard every 0.012" is one degree of timing?

THANKS!

IT depends if your running the an fmu, hack, ems.I would keep it retarded to like 13 or even 12 if your running fmu or hack or untill you can get it tuned.

If you check it with a timing light you cant go wrong on the ingnition timing. Now cam timing is a diffrent story.

I'm running Underdata, none of the "hack" crap.
I have a timing light and it is now set at 14*, but the question I need to find out the answer for is wether for a thicker HG, does the timing advance 2* or retard 2* at the distributor?

Thx!!!

Bump

Tell me everyone running a thicker headgasket, thinner headgasket, or a milled head/block has adjusted their timing accordingly....

Can anyone chip in?

Thinner HG = Higher CR = retard timing. I would only go a couple degrees at the dizzy. Uberdata is doing it for you in boost, so it should be plenty safe if your AFR is in the 12's. Are you worried about safety? Retarding the timing definitely isn't going to make any power, so if you aren't worried about safety why retard?

See its odd because in another post I found on here, someone claimed you retard timing for a thicker HG.
I think you're talking about retarding timing to prevent detonation. I'm talking about retarding timing to make up for the timing belt being situated differently because the head is raised higher than stock.

Thx for the reply
