They keep on tellin me...
Alright well almost everyone I talk to keep on tellin me that Im gonna have to change my almost brand new Exedy Stage 1 racing clutch to at least a stage 3 once going turbo, true story? And they also told me that OEM flywheel is the best for forced induced, true story? What do ya'll think?I have a 7lb Fidanza Lightweight Racing Flywheel with the Stage 1 Exedy Racing Clutch, is that bad and upgrade to stage 3 or will that be just fine?Im sorta under a budget here too.

It all depends on how much power you are making. I have 211whp with an exedy stage 1 and a fidanza 7 pound flywheel and mine is doing fine.

depending on the power level you make once boosted.. the stage 1 will be fine... at least for a while... then you could go to a stage 2 "thick" if you needed more capacity.
As far as a flywheel goes... I personally dont like flywheels that are that light. Nor do I really trust aluminum flywheels.. but thats just my opinion.

A turbo Honda usually works better with a heavy flywheel. The heavy flywheel has more inertia and will help to keep the car from bogging during takeoff. It also helps to keep the rpms from dropping between shifts. A Honda doesn't make gobs of torque to begin with, so the heavier flywheel will help to keep the engine speed from dropping off. On a turbo car, it could potentially drop below the rpms where the turbo spools creating a bogging of the engine.

Yeah, except for the fact that the rpms will only drop until they match the speed of the car for the next gear..
7lb flywheel is probably more for a race type setup, oem flywheel more for street, daily driven.. it's often a tradeoff between performance and driveability. in other words its not as easy to slip an unsprung 4 puck metal disc on a super light flywheel to a smooth start as it is a stock clutch at first

well... u can just run the stage 1 in there till the clutch burns out, then u can think about replacing it. thats the route i would go with for now if your on a budget. it should be able to hold for a little while, again depending on the power you plan on putting down.

yeah i think we know that, plus you can calculate tq from hp and vice versa, most people know about how much tq your making if your making XXXhp

well either or... understood that its tq that remotely **** up the clutch... he can still run the stage 1 till it burns out, eventually forcing him to upgrade to a better one later down the line anyways. and as for the flywheel... sell it and pick up a oem flywheel is an option i would look at.

Yeah, well my goal by the end of this summer is between 200-225 whp and not too sure about the torque, what would your guys rough estimate be about that? What would be the main things to upgrade in my D16Y8 if I wanna produce that much whp anyway?

This is my method as well. Just run it till it doesn't work anymore and replace it.

Re: (b16a4)
for you power goals i would do the head studs. and i know with my exedy stage 1 on my turbo d16 at 165 ftlbs my clutch started slipping. so do what ya want with the clutch, if it slipps then replace if not dont worry about it i guess. what is your turbo set up going to look like?

How can you tell how much peak torque someone is making just by going off their peak hp?

that guy right here is the damn man^^^^^^^^. he street tuned my b16a. ive got a clutchmasters flywheel with exedy stage 1. i only drive my car about once a week but i beat the **** out of it when i do. it holds like a champ, granted im not launching on it though. i think thats where your problem is gonna happen, when you try to launch it hard. but im like the other guys were saying. im gonna rock it till it lets go. then ill get a stage 2exedy. but im keepin the fly wheel. good luck to you. and if you need more info on matt shue's tuning his link is in my sig.
