testing boost leak
has anybody tried testing their setup for boost leak? what methods do you use or you just look at the boost gauge?
i came across 2 sites with a diy boost leak testing...here it is:
http://www.dsm.org/menu.epl?item=494 -> kinda hard to follow, maybe somebody here can explain it better.
http://www.slcstreetracing.com/proje...essuretest.cfm -> kinda easy to follow
so anybody tried any of these? is it worth trying in the first place? if so, which method is better, coz i think both differ on the place where they hook up the hose. i may be wrong though.
any thoughts?

Re: testing boost leak (asianspeed)
I "heard" :
Run the engine, and spray wd-40 in various areas you suspect a leak. If the idle fluctuates, the boost leak is in the area. I dont know how this is supposed to work....and plus I dont want to get my engine bay all greasy.

Re: testing boost leak (_Endless_)
the first one is similar to the second only u cap off the turbo inlet. ( where your air intake is) then u build boost through your vac lines. this seams it may be more affective because u get to test your vac lines and your charge pipes.
anyone done this yet and how did it work for u?

I tried the second one and it didn't work worth crap. I could build up to like 3 psi pumping like crazy and as soon as i stopped it would drop back to ) pretty quick. I can't tell if my pump suck cause its way old or if my system is way leaky. Is a honda engine really designed to be able to hold positive pressure like that. it seems to me there is a small chance that you could pump air in the intake valve and right out the exhaust valve during the overlap period. I'm just wondering cause the tester was doine on a eclipse.

um, I'm pretty sure the normal 'spray fluid' is carb cleaner or brake clean, and it is to test for a vacume leak which is not always the same as a boost leak. it works because you change what the charge air contains a little when the fluid vapors are sucked in. WD-40 sucks anyway

Re: testing boost leak (Bailhatch)
This is kinda a ghetto method, but get some hose (like 3/8 or1/2 inch) and put it in your ear. Then hold it down around the IC piping and listen for leaks (or anywhere else you think it could be leaking). Surprising how much this helps!!
