Stripped Flywheel Bolts
Anybody else had the same luck I have had with these 12point bolts? These are really easy to strip unless you have a impact gun.

Re: Stripped Flywheel Bolts (LsTurbo91)
heh you wont believe how i got these off
like a 7/16ths wrench not even a 12 point i believe
one person holding the crank
one person putting their foot against the bolt and wrench to keep it on there
and me jumping on top of the wrench to get it off
worked well and no stripped/damaged bolts

Re: Stripped Flywheel Bolts (dustin)
Yea, I have a impact gun rated at 500ft/lbs, 3.5scfm. My compressor is probably weak, 5.5scfm @ 90psi? I would guess thats good enough for a freaking 56ft/lb bolt. I had to take it to a machine shop for them to remove it. Holding the crank wasn't the problem. I have the moroso pulley holder to hold the crank, its when it slips is when the damn thing strips urgh. Hope this doesn't happen when i take the flywheel/clutch of the LS block

Re: Stripped Flywheel Bolts (LsTurbo91)
That's just the flow rate of the pump itself...
You should be able to take the bolt off without it cycling the pump on to repressurize the tank...
You sure your gun was on 'reverse' ?

Easy way to remove flywheel bolts w/o an impact gun:
Get a floor jack and a thick block (~4"+) of soft wood (pine is good). Put the wood on top of the jack and jack it into the flywheel (damn that sounds bad...). Just jack it up enough to hold the flywheel firmly, the wood won't mess the teeth up.

Re: Stripped Flywheel Bolts (civbeater90)
guys like I said, there's no problems holding the crank, I have a crank pulley holder. Its breaking the stupid bolts, the damn socket barely snugs in the 12 point bolt. I didn't have a problem with 2 other blocks breaking the bolts, maybe its just this stupid block.

Re: Stripped Flywheel Bolts (dustin)
maybe im not making myself clear I'm just whining to the fact that these bolts are a POS! If the head would extend a lil longer it should be no problem. Thats what i mean by the socket barely snugs in, the socket is fine just one slip and its stripped.

I've never had a problem with those bolts or p.p. bolts at all....now if what you're talking about are axles in hybrids, somehow I have really bad luck with the hub side....any tips on making it easier(tools)? I wanted to try the Ford specialty axle tool, but I'm not sure it'll work the same way with a honda
