should i go stock or low comp. pistons on 84mm gsr turbo motor????
i just blew my motor and am planing on sleeving the block but i dont know weather to go stock or low comp. pistons with the new motor??
i have a drag kit with a t3/t4e turbo and im not sure if im gonna keep it.. want to get a bigger turbo but funds are low right now..
i want about 350-400 whp i think it sould be good for low 11's - high 10's
which set-up (high-low comp) would be easier to make that power?
i also plan on getting a tubular manifold (onefab or full-race), hondata, and complete fuel set-up with the new motor...
old set-up was a stock gsr motor with a drag gen III kit @ 8psi in a 89 crx si (fully gutted)rings in the motor were going, it only dynoed 235 whp on a dynojet.
best time was 11.9 @ 113 mph
i want a motor that can get me into low 11's or high 10's do you think 350-400 is to low?
thanks for the help..

well, you dont need to sleeve your block for 350whp thats for sure, unless you want the security. By low comp. you dont have to go to 8:1 but somewhere around 9.5:1 should be about right. With a rebuilt motor with forged internals you will make lots of power... if you went into the high 11's with only 235hp then you should make 10's without sleeving. Also if your on a budget why are you getting a fullrace mani? They are nice but hella expensive.
it would help to share your total setup, suspension, slicks?, drivetrain, traction bars....
i hope you have a cage in that car

Re: should i go stock or low comp. pistons on 84mm gsr turbo motor???? (kabaroo)
well my stock motor blew... #1 and 2 sleeves cracked....
i have a extra gsr bare block so thats why im sleeving it..dont want it to happen again.
i was just wondering if i should go stock comp. or low like 9.0:1 with the new block?
should stock comp pistons make more power with less boost?
is it as safe as low comp. pistons with higher boost?? or same?
by full-race, i meant either a used full race manifold or a copy (one around $600)
i want to keep my turbo. just a nicer manifold.
my old set-up was stock gsr w/ dragIII kit 8psi.
jim-fab traction bars
24.5 x 8 MH slicks
LS cable tranny
no cage... only ran 11.9 once was a consistant 12.0 car. track kick me off after 11 second pass..

Was the drag kit using FMU for managment? Sounds like you had too much timing, that's why the sleeves cracked. Tuning was key there. And still is, so use stock sleeves, save the extra $1000 and put that into managment and tuning. You will be able to reach your goals with stock sleeves, and be safe at the same time.

the car was using 12:1 fmu, v-afc, and drag booster fuel pump...
it was tuned with a wideband ran great for about 2 1/2 years.. consistant 12.0 car
had over 20 low 12 sec slips... and I raced it on the streets alot too..
i was gonna re-build it because the ring were going, but then the sleeves cracked

i would go with 9:1 or 9.5:1 comp. it makes tuning easier and its safer. You need to up your fuel management that should be step 1 after your rebuild.
You always hear the term "tuning is key" on this site. thats cuz it is. slock sleeves have seen 500whp. 350 should not be a problem. But if you sleeve it you have the peace of mind and the ability to up the boost alot.

exactly.. it just makes me feel better that the block is sleeved...
with a 84mm 9.5:1 pistons and my t3/t4e turbo how much boost do you think i need to reach 400 whp? about 14psi??

ELABORATE!!! A T3/T4E can be a T3/TO4E 50-trim, or it can have as big as a PT67 wheel cut to fit. It could take 12 psi it could take 20 psi. If it's a standard T3/TO4E 57 trim i'd say you're looking at 17-18 psi to make 400 WHP

it's 57 trim
with 10.1:1 pistons, will it take less boost to make same power as 9.5:1

Each FULL point in compression is worth about 3-4% in power. That's a .6 point in difference, so you might make 3 or 4 horsepower less naturally aspirated with 9.5 vs. 10.1. With forced induction you MIGHT make 10 WHP more at a given boost level. That's made up by about a half a pound of boost. Compression is incredibly overemphasized on here, especially the "huge" difference in makes in how quick your turbo spools, which isn't really anything IMO. Not worth it to go with 10.1:1 when you can make more power safely on 9:1 on pump gas, and you don't really gain anything from 10:1+ compression for a street car.
