ssac manifold - bracing it
Hey guys, I have an ssautochrome manifold. I know that they are crap, but i just want to know if anyone knows the best way to brace it would be. Does anyone have one on there car right now, if so, how did you brace it so it will last. Please advise, thanks guys. If you have pics that would be great.

Re: ssac manifold - bracing it (toolowsol)
My preference would be to brace it in the garbage, that's where it will end up one day soon!!!!!
Good luck, hope you have better success than most others.

Michael

LMAO... Yeah ssac is ****, but there have been many people who have braced these manifolds and run them with no problem... They usually break in between the collector and turbo flange at the welds... The manifold cannot support the turbo the way it is designed and under high heat the manifold falls apart because it is cheap... I would spend a little extra money for at least a decent log style manifold... good luck...

Thanks for the quick feedback guys. My turbo is a t3/to4e(so it's pretty big). I just don't want it to fall off....lol.

If the manifold holds up, you will like it. Compared to the log manifold I am running now, the ssac manifold had way better top end. Makes me want another, but then I remember how much of a bitch it was to make it work on my prelude and I say forget it

brace it like toolowsol and you should be fine. The turbo must be braced from the block to support the weight of the turbo.

Re: ssac manifold - bracing it (ginoboy1978)
Along with bracing the turbo I'd recommend bracing the wastegate. Just had to repair a customer's manifold a week ago because the wastegate outlet cracked off an inch below the flange. While I was inspecting it I noticed there were cracks on the collector, starting and stopping at random points. Not sure what type of austenitic stainless they use but it doesn't seem to be quality. It took me a couple of hours at $70/hr to fix it, not worth it imo to fix it but the customer needed one asap.
If it were my car I'd spend the extra money on a better manifold.

Then don't use that manifold...if the turbo doesn't fall off then the wastegate probably will...not to mention crack at the toes of all the welds.

brace it and it will last a little while.....not as long as the good manifolds but longer than many people would expect.

I have mine braced and its been on since July with no probs. Aprox 8000+ miles on it too.
Also make sure to port the wastegate area, as it will boost creep if you dont remove the excess material they leave in there. Flex pipe in the downpipe is also a good idea.

Re:
I'm assuming that the block to mani brace would be a good idea even though it has the brace on it that goes from the head-flange to the turbo-flange?
is this correct?
I have one of the new "xs-power" manifolds and it has the wastegate brace and the welds are much cleaner than others ive seen and there is no excess material in the wastegate port of any kind.
i cant see the brace from the block to the mani making a whole lot of difference...the brace from the head-flange to the turbo-flange is pretty much the same thing.
