spooling a t70 turbo?
ok so i just cracked a sleeve, was pushing 20 psi at 511hp, good thing i had a block guard or the whole cylinder wouldve shatter in pieces. so in the process of getting my block sleeved i am looking for a new turbo, was running sc61. now i hear alot of people say good luck spooling a t70, and others say it can be done. is there anyone that ran a t70 turbo on a 4 banger? going to push 25-35 psi on a sleeved block. (not a daily driver, weekend warrior and track car)
heres my setup
b18b1 block 81.5
wiseco 8.5.1 pistons
eagle rods
b16 head gsr cams
supertech valve spring and retainers (reving to 9200)
top mount manifold
4 inch downpipe
44mm wastegate
1250 fic injectors
ethanol85
stock intake manifold
tuning on ectune
Now i know alot of you arnt going to like this but i am looking at this cheap *** ebay turbo, here are the specs. i know alot of you are going to sayy this turbo is going to blow up, but its something that i really want to try out...
Turbine Housing AR:A/R 1.00
flange:T4 Flange V band
Compressor Housing AR:A/R 70 T04E
Compressor Inlet: *101mm
Compressor Outlet:*65mm
Turbine Wheel:*64.5-73mm Trim:79
Compressor Wheel:*54.3-82mm trim52
Bearing Housing: TB34
Oil and Water Cooled: water Cooled
Thrust Bearing: 360

Re: spooling a t70 turbo?
i had one but just sold it, i was going to use it on a b20vtec motor but have herd that the turbo is kinda lazy and wont spool till 5500rpm, i was only revving to 8000rpm max on my b20vtec because of stock valve train and stock rod bolts so i fugure i needed a faster spooling turbo and picked up a t3t4 garrett 57 trim, but i guess its a good turbo if u ask others whos used it. sorry its all i kno.

Re: spooling a t70 turbo?
the problem with ebay turbos is that "T70" doesnt even describe the size of the turbo properly. at least they give actual wheel sizes. im no expert but just from looking they look all mis-matched. a compressor with a 54mm inducer and 82mm exducer just sounds wrong.

Re: spooling a t70 turbo?
ive ran a similiar turbo to what you posted here. Mine was the usual t3 "t70" you see on ebay. .70 a/r compressor, .82 a/r turbine. t3 flanged, divided housing.
i was using a non divided manifold, with the divided turbo, and yea spool was rather sluggish. but it came on hard and made good power. i think with a divided manifold it would have performed very similiar to its cousins (gt35r, sc61, 60-1, etc etc) the t70 uses the same wheels as those turbos. i pulled it apart and wheel sizes were within .5mm of garretts gt35r posted sizes.
at 23psi it made 490whp on a gsr motor that only had 9:1 wiseco's/eagle rods. spool started about 4k and made full boost by 6200, redline at 9500.
with the proper manifold i would guess spool would drop by maybe 800-1k rpm.

Re: spooling a t70 turbo?
damn taht is pretty laggy, my sc 61 spoos at 4500 and full bost at 5000. and i got 511hp at 20 psi, i would think that with a t70 at 20 psi would be a lot highter around 580 or 600 hp. would this be true or are they not efficant for my goals?

Re: spooling a t70 turbo?
if fast2cam is correct then the "t70" should make similar power to your sc61 since they apparently use the same size wheels.

Re: spooling a t70 turbo?
this was on a gsr motor, stock cams, wisecos/eagles, on 110 gas.
your running an ls/vtec with more mods and e85....so yea your going to make more power per psi than i did for sure.
i wouldnt call the t70 and upgrade over the sc61....more like a cheaper equivelent.
ALSO just wanted to add...that the turbo that i ran, and the turbo you referenced in the 1st post, are NOT the same....mine was t3, and had an .82 a/r exhaust....so my info is basically for "reference only" lol
