Default solid cel... bad ecu or bad chip?

well i go to tune my car. car is running fine w/ chipped p06 and jktuning basemap beforehand. tuner takes chip out, burns new chip, puts it back in, then i get a solid cel. so we try a different chip. still get a solid cel. i buy another ecu and tried both chips in it. still getting a solid cel. this new ecu has an on/off switch. w/ switch on we get a solid cel. with switch off we get no cel but still in limp mode (really rich and wont rev over 3k) plugged both ecus into another car w/ similar setup, both gave a solid cel (even with his chip which we knew worked).

what do u think? bad ecus? bad chips?

forgot to add...with stock ecu the only cel was for secondary o2 sensor so i wouldnt think the wiring is bad. pretty sure the chipped ecus are both in open loop or whatever disables the o2 sensor.

You know I had the same problem... I never got an answer to why this happened either. The ONLY chip I could get to work was this stupid "Mugen 11k rev limiter" eBay chip to work... Its really weird. I've tried all the chips in my other p28 and they all worked just fine.

Good luck

It's most likely a bad chip or a bad burn or it may be that "remove checksum" thing. I had this problem a few months back and had someone else make an entirely new basemap and it had no cel at all.

yeah ill agree with either bad chip or bad burn. this has happend to me many times over the past 3 years of chip tuning ive been doing.

causes of problems have been anything from bad chip, bad burn, broken burner, corrupted file...

corrupted file actually happend to me 2 days ago, for some reason the .bin was just bad, so i used a different file and it works fine.

if it were a bad burn then y would we get a solid cel with a 3rd chip from another car which we knew was working? his chip threw a solid cel in both ecus also. i'm hoping it is just a bad chip as i dont want to buy a 3rd ecu.

Im pretty sure it is not the chip. I used my chip in his ECU and still got a solid cell. That same chip I used to drive home on in my car so I know the Chip was good.

At the same time it is very odd to me that both ECU would be bad. One bad is pretty rare but 2 is near impossible.

Some others have said it might have to do with the injectors/resistor box. Im not really sure how that is affected though.

Thats what I was saying as well. The only thing my ECU chipper could tell me is sometimes these things dont turn out. I hope someone has an answer cause I dont want to sell my extra perfectly chipped ECU on eBay as a "Mugen Chipped ECU"

Bump for suggestions
