sohc turbo....new motor or rebuild?
I am on a bit of a budget, as of now I have saved up $1800. I am not expecting the fastest car, but with good driving low 13's are my goal.
My car as of now: Dx motor with 140xxx I am 99% sure I should trash this motor and buy a low milage d16z6 with low milage tranny, then turbo ( i should have enough cash to do both of these)
Or with the money used on the d16z6 swap should i rebuild the d15......but that leaves me with a high milage tranny.
Any advice would be appreciated.

If the D15 is going to be built for boost, it will be the better motor VS stock internal D16Z6. But if you're just haveint it rebuilt back to stock I'd go for the D16.(I may be partial to the D16Z6 )

I say go with a rebuild of the motor with forged pistons, rods, and a clutch, then turbo it. It will be cheaper any how seeing you are on a budget. What kind of car do you have? A HB will be easy to get low 13's with, a coupe will take a little more work, and a sedan will be harder.

i have a 95 coupe. Do you really think the d15 is worth rebuilding, i thought the d16 would be a better block to start with

Best bet is shop around for an LS swap. Should be able to get one for $1500 or less plus or minus some parts here and there. Turbo that bitch once you have more money. D15

the title says sohc turbo. obviously what this guy is thinkin bout. please dont tell him to go dohc. its not what he's askin for. i guess rebuild or new motor would depend on how much experience you have, how much $$ to spend, and how much time you have to complete your goals. good luck either way

well like I was saying. This is my everyday driver and am looking for a fun 13 sec car. It seems that if I mildly build a d16z6 it can handle 12 psi, which is about 215 hp to the wheels, and if I blow it, I can get a replacement super cheap compared to a ls, plus no need for buying motor mounts and stuff.
Does anyone else agree with me?

You can have a reliable 13sec d16z6 powered civic for sure. Mine went 13.30's @ 106mph at its best and it was very reliable at that point. This was with A/C installed, on 17" wheels w/ yokohama a520 tires, full interior, and the boost spiking to 11psi and falling to 8.5 psi as fast as it spiked(bad boost controller). The motor was 100% stock from T-body to exhasut ports. It made the trip from PA to GA on the Super Street Tour and from PA the beach twice without failure. I made it faster and it broke(new boost controller and a constant 10-11psi).
The setup was :
1989 civic si w/ 1995 d16z6 and 1990 dx tranny
Greddy sohc turbo kit (old one that came with the FMU)
1st gen DSM side mount intercooler and BOV
Custom IC piping and no air filter (no room w/ac and the battery was still in the front)
Bosh fuel pump recomended by Endyn
MSD 6abtm w/blaster coil
89 Integra computer
Field vtec controller
Greddy downpipe to 3" exhaust (no cat)
ACT HDR6 clutch w/ old ACT factory lightened flywheel
Unorthodox pulley
Hope this helps give you a idea what you can achieve with the underdog. I realy wish I had got to run slicks as it surely would have gone 12.6-12.9

Re: sohc turbo....new motor or rebuild? (yusoslo)
The motor had about 80,000 on it when the turbo was installed and about a 100,000 when it let go. I showed no mercy to the motor while in operation, but I did maintain it well always changing the oil and keeping it tunned up. If it would have had an air filter, a front mount (the dsm side mount was not that efficient as the charge temp was hot on the inlet and warm on the outlet), and left the boost as it was I feel it would still be with me today. But what's the fun of it if you don't push the limits of things. At least that is my view on things.

Re: sohc turbo....new motor or rebuild? (VTC_boost-less_CiViC)
so the greddy kit will fulfill my needs?
I dont think i need to spend the extra 1000 to 1500 for the drag 3 kit.
I heard the greddy is good for 15psi
ALSO for 12 psi, should I invest in a honda 2b or stick with the greddy supplied electronics?
