Who in here is running a really fast SOHC? (mods)
Just wondering what the guys that have really fast SOHC engines have done. I'm talking low 14's at least or somewhere in the neighborhood of 150 hp to the wheels.

My old roommates CRX had a SOHC motor with a ghetto turbo set up, Starion I/C, never dyno'd it, but 12.63@106 at Pomona.

I'm sorry i should've mentioned any mod except turbo and nitrous. I'm more interested in the fast NA SOHC. I'm curious as to what mods they did to get the HP up their.

Re: Who in here is running a really fast SOHC? (turboed ex)
There was a guy back a few years ago who had 12.5:1 compression, LS rods, gude cam and head, 4-1 header 2.5" exhaust made 155-159whp with a single slam....said he could build another motor like it for $1500 or so (but had many many dyno runs to fine tune the setups he tried before he got it right)
Not bad for a single slam.
Then Landspeed racing suposedly made 200whp from a single slam N/A motor with high revs and lots of comp.....I will have to look back a few years to remeber the specifics of their setup though.
I think the biggest problem encountered was oil control but even hi rev DOHC run into that problem so an upgraded oil pump gear would be a good investment.

For all motor: Start with a D16Z6. Add a Aem CAI and adjustable cam gear. Little bit of head work or maybe a cam. Good 4-1 header. Quaife lsd with some 13' rims and slicks. Get the best motor and tranny mounts you can. A good free flowing exhaust. Loose some car weight(depending on car stock weight). Good suspension. Tuning Tuning Tuning...and launch at 7k. That should be low 14's maybe high 13's

Anyone else run a fast NA SOHC or have suggestions on the best set up also considering cost? Like what's the best engine, the Y8 or the Z6 or putting a combination of blocks and heads?

Re: Who in here is running a really fast SOHC? (SkylineGTR)
I will post pics of my fresh block next week.
New block is as follows...
-freshly bored and honed Z6 block
-shot peened Z6 rods
-p29 pistons
-oem rings
The block will be done by Thursday. Total cost is 220 bucks. Parts are cost and machining is free through my bro's work.
My current head will be thrown on there...
-Z6 head
-stock valvetrain(not revving past 7200)
-ZEX street/strip cam
-port/polished
-milled .020
-3 angle valve job
- new liners
-AEM cam gear advanced 4 degrees
Hondata 200 will do the tuning and a Y8 intake mani if found. I also have a B18 TB to throw on. I'm hoping for low 14's in my 94 Si full interior. This will be oriignal engine in a street car. Perfect for the track, and fun on the strip.
