Default So i got this turbo for free(aka will this ever spool?)

Ok guys i got a turbo for free from a friend.
I couldnt find the garret code but i measured it and its:

T4 O-TRIM turbine wheel.
T3 divided 1.3 a/r turbine housing.
T04B S-3 compressor.

The mani is cast iron.
I was searching for a used turbo because the setup will be very basic.
And since the races we do here are 90% from a dig vs heavier-higher horsepower cars i actualy wanted a slow spooling turbo.
I thought it just might work giving traction for the first 2 gears without the need of AVCR.The shaft play is small
but i can do a rebuild at a friend that has a turbo repair shop for 200$.

Engine is B16A2 hp target 250 +/- to the crank.

What do you guys think? If it hits the desired boost level for 250hp before 6000 im cool with this.

Thanks for your time and sorry if my english sound weird.

I dont think thats enough info to determine the turbo. You need to take the housings off and measure the wheels with a dial caliper.

But 1.3 a/r turbine sounds too large for a B16 lol

At a goal of 250 I'm not sure why you are worried about traction. Put a decent tire on the damn thing

I measured the wheels.Thats the results i posted above.
Its a straight T4 o-trimturbine/s-trim compressor.
Turbine(exd/ind) 2.3/2.9 inches or 58/73 mm
Compressor(ind/exd) 1.90/2.75 inches 48/69 mm

So if it was precision it would be 4858 or sth.

The roads here are slipery as hell, plus del sol has the bad habit of wheelspinning.
It spins on the first gear with the stock 160hp on continental sport contact 3 with 4000 miles on them.
Its a daily that needs only to be fast on the 6-8200 zone.Plus a rebuild turbo for total 200$ cost is tempting.

I forgot to mention i have close to 11:1 compression.
So what do you guys believe?
Will it hit the desired psi before 6000?

Which is all the more reason why you don't want the late spool you think you have. By the time you get that rolling, the other car who's using more driver skill than trying to outwit the principles of turbocharger fluid dynamics will out- accelerate you anyway, from a "dig" or not.

You need better matching turbocharger, better tyre and more driver's skill. Its a front wheel drive car. Even stock FWD turbo cars will experience it at one time or another.

Your hybrid turbocharger isn't the worse combination in the world. the problem is the turbine housing with that O-trim exhaust wheel. (For those that don't know what then old O-trims were, they were a cross between a 65mm exducer "stage III", and a 66mm exducer "P-trim".) Good enough for 250whp with an S-3 compressor wheel, but the turbine housing made it behave as though it belongs on a tractor.

You will not get 250whp by 6000rpms with this application on a B16A2. Sorry.

Nono i dont want 250 whp on 6000 i want full boost on 6000.
Call it 8psi.
Look. The roads here suck.I mean bad bad.The most cars here with small turbos spin like hell on 1st/second unless they use semislick type of tyres.
I was very good with the EG from a dig but del sol is very different.

What your prediction(cause i know youre good) on rpm?
The guy at the turbo shop said we can block the one side of the divided T3 entry if i want small hp with a flange cut with only one hole.

He can block it all he wants. It'll already choke what that turbine can work with on that big volute.

The del sol is different because it has an even shorter wheel base than an EG. Has nothing to do with roads, or a B16. We're in Michigan. we literally have worse roads than Albania, and we have a few turbo del sols here that are doing just fine. but they also run a good wide tyre, proper suspension, and don't worry a "dig" so much in 1st & 2nd gear. They know better than to match other cars in that game.

Won't predict when this will reach your max targe with that huge on an exhaust wheel. your best bet is find out if you're hell-bent on using this thing given to you for free.

Always funny then when it comes to "free" turbos... (*whisper* It usually means, the other guy couldn't use it for the same reason you want to either.. )

Thx Mac.I guess i will retrofit a M62(we have plenty of them here from the Mercs)
But i will do the test some time since the turbo works.Well just for the heck of it

Sounds like a plan. Good luck with whichever you decide to go with.
