Default Smallest intercooler for a 400-500whp application?

I'm not quite sure how much the stock drag intercooler can handle but I'm guessing not in the mid 400 range.

I really like the drag intercooler though. Fits perfect on my 93 hatch (with shaving of the inside of the bumper). I think it might be time to upgrade soon as I'm boosting 16psi right now daily, and plan to do somewhere in the 20's on race gas.

I'd really prefer not cutting the bumper apart and was wondering if there are any intercoolers that will fit a 92-95 hatch without having to do major cutting, that can handle 400-500whp.

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

I think the drag is good up to 350 and 400

Bump. Anyone know? Any links?

I'm looking for an intercooler that is good up to about 500hp yet still small in size so I don't have to cut up half of my bumper... if there is such a thing.

The med size precision intercooler fits very nice on the front of the civic - without cutting the bumper support. Its prolly just about the biggest FMIC you can fit without cutting the bumper support. Precision rates the turbo at 650hp.

have you put the bumper back on yet??? i have a dc2 and i couldnt mount it like that, once the bumper was on the intercooler sat like 2 inches out of the bottom. i had to hack my bumper support to giet it up higher.

Its a little low - its lower then the stock bumper. But with a bumper lip you cant see the bottom. (i have oem honda 92-95 vx lip)

Ill try to take a picture of it tomorrow for ya.

Because if i get in an accident i want a little big of protection. 10mph crash with the bumper support will do very little damage, 10mph without a bumper support can distroy the car and engine.

true but if you get into a accident like that your screwed either way. Something is bound to break esp with all those piping and fmic.

I don't mind removing the bumper support. I just don't want to cut out anything on my bumper besides the front grill. Just looks extremely ugly in my opinion. I wish there was an aftermarket bumper like the Backyard Special for the EK's... but I have yet to see one for EG's.

The C-West bumper isn't too bad... not a fan of the sides or rears though.

why dont u try using the current drag IC if u like it so much and just monitor your intake temps rather closely?

I am using my drag IC right now. I just figured I should upgrade soon since they're not "suppose" to handle over 400hp or whatever. I like it's size, and was wondering if there's anything out there that's similar in size yet capable of handling more power. Really no point in getting an extremely large IC and cutting my bumper in half when there's an IC out there that's smaller that fits my goals.

What is considered to be a high intake temp? I think my car ran about 120ish in Uberdata. I noticed it ran about 110ish on a friends car (b16 turbo with a larger IC)... and about 100 on a SOHC turbo (with a smaller IC).

Never was sure what's considered to be a high intake temp... and optimal intake temp.

The PTE 600 HP intercooler will fit ok in the stock EG opening, you could cut it to let more airflow in but you do not need to. Better than relying on that ghetto-*** Ntercooler **** to keep temps down with a smaller cooler.
