Sleeved Blocks
Saw a recent poll on these sleeves.
Was wondering why everyone is saying to go with Golden EAgle MOre expensive and not deck plate.
These sleeves would be for a B18C but 84mm sleeves!
LIST OTHERS IF SELECTED
Golden Eagle-Not deck plate@$600 plus shipping of block
Darton -Deck plate@$499 not deck plate@ $300
Prices for Darton @ http://www.raceng.com

Re: Sleeved Blocks (crxhybrid1320)
Golden Eagle's is called "Goldzilla", not a sport block....and it doesn't need a deckplate. It does incorporate a blockguard type of apparatus (although I know that's not the technical term, so whoever does please put it up here) which stabilizes the top.....and your prices don't seem too accurate either.....the Darton Deckplate design from everything i've seen is around 800-ish FOR THE SLEEVES ONLY (install not included), and the GE job is about 700-750, sleeves and install, just add shipping (about 50 bucks or so). I haven't heard anything bad about either design (short of the whining of a few that turns into something blown way out of proportion, welcome to the internet) that can be substantially proven to my satisfaction, so either one should provide ample protection for your block.

Re: Sleeved Blocks (MyLittleTegra)
From what I understand about the GE Sport blocks is that it is supported on the sides from the top to the bottom of the sleeve. The block guards however which are $100 dollars only support the top of the sleeve but the block can still crack lower in the sleeve like below the block guard.

Re: Sleeved Blocks (crxhybrid1320)
you misunderstood me.....i wasn't referring to the GE design using a typical "generic" blockguard....just a similar design, and like i said, i wasn't sure of the official name and asked someone who knew what it was to please add it in so that my post wasn't misinterpreted, which thanks to the internet, people are all too quick to want to do.

No i understood
I was saying that the GE is supported from the top to the bottom
A block guard only supports the top- Not very good
The Deck Plate Dartons are only $499 retail from Race Engineering @

rock on.....yeah i think the race engineering site still shows the old design--i remember reading in this forum a while back (benny put it up) about Darton changing their design, and had really cheap prices (around $450-$500 everywhere) on the old design sleeves (not that they're poor quality, just needed to clear out stock) in order to make room for the new design which is retailing around $850-ish not including install.

The Deck Plate Dartons are only $499 retail from Race Engineering .
I have seen prices anywhere from 500-700 for sleeve install. So that makes the Dartons $1000-1200. Compared to the goldeneagle $750 or so.

yeah, it runs pretty high.......keep in mind you don't want to get it bored until you have the pistons, and even if they're not installing them for you, it's a good idea to give them to the shop that's doing the work so that they can make sure the block is machined to piston specs.....a lot easier than just boring out the block then finding pistons that work with it; possibly having to re-bore or re-hone after you get pistons that are just a tidge out of spec....because the only slapping i like to do is when i'm hittin it doggystyle.

Re: Sleeved Blocks (MyLittleTegra)
Its over 500 for the install including Boring and Honing right. The prices I have been quoted does not include bore and hone. That would have been extra.

Re: Sleeved Blocks (uglyasscivic)
bore and hone only cost about 20-25 bucks per cylinder...
GE uses an open deck method, in which the brace is supporting the cylinder walls about 3/4" below the top of the cylinder. this will help reduce chance of overheating as we all know, internal combustion happen when the piston hit the plugs at the very top of the cylinder, therefore, that area creates the most heat than any other spots on the cylinder walls, having a block guard type brace at the very top creates a lot of overheating issues, since the the brace is occupying the area where in need of the cooling the most from the water jacket ( the brace is install in the water jacket).
all other benson, darton closed deck has EXCELLENT design to where they can have a closed deck sleeves without overheating issues...
either sleeves are fine, they all have been proven times and times again....

Re: Sleeved Blocks (Flamenco-T)
Yeah, I might leave it like it is now.
(JE Pistons, Factory Sleeves w/RACE ENGineering Block Guard)
The sleeves seems a little more expensive than I expected.
Im going to re-ring it to elimate my smoking at start-up.
Anyone elses smoke slightly at start-up with large ring gap for turbo?

Benson uses a custom sleeve made for him by Darton. I've never had a problem with his sleeves.

Re: Sleeved Blocks (exospeedAMcrx)
hey crxhybrid, i have a JG Pro series block with ductile nickel sleeves and my motor was smoking a good bit. I'm running 650 rc injectors and i think my problem is i was running to much fuel and washed out the hash marks and my rings never seated. I had over 2500 miles before i turrned up the boost to about 17psi. Finally got motor out and will take it to local machine shop to get it checked out and get it honed and bored if need be.
