sleeve question
Last night I blew my motor, broke my piston in two and put a hole in my cyc wall. I was wondering if my block was done or if an aftermarket sleeve would fix it?
Thanks

That depends because some companies still use some of the lower portion of the sleeve.

Absolutely, would I lie to you? LOL Darton uses the lower section of the sleeve and I am pretty sure GE does as well. The sleeve can be cracked BUT it can't have the crack running all the way down the sleeve. They use the lower section and when the install the sleeve its pressed in. Let me try and get you a picture its hard to explain. Maybe GE or Darton can chime in. Its hard to explain cause its really not the stock sleeve they are using its part of the lower section but when sleeves are cracked bad enough they can ruin the bottom part of that sleeve. Blahh let me try and get you a picture.

yeah your right benson uses darton sleeves. Thanks for that picture, helps explain in more detail what I meant. Its not the actual steal sleeve itself they use but the lower jacket. The Darton MID's are similar and use the lower portion otherwise the sleeve has nothing to be pressed into. It would need to be welded or bonded otherwise.

bensen has them custom made for him though. they are unlike other darton sleeves.

i see now, thanks for clearing that up. but then would you say that lower part is a part of the OEM sleeve or part of the block itself?

its part of the aluminum outer casting that surrounds the oem sleeve.
