Default Single Cam Turbo Build

im starting to put together motor parts for my single cam turbo setup, i was planning on usisn a z6 block, with a vtec head, vitara pistons, and eagle rods, and run about 10lbs

i got a deal on a y8 head with crower valve traing, fresh rebuild

but i heard that the clearneces of the vitara pistons in a z6 block will interfere with something on a y8 head

should i get a y8 block as well? i heard z6 was best for boost

goodluck with build

They say the z6 is better for boost because the y8 oil pump sucks and has been known to spin bearings. But there are tricks from theoldone.com to boost the pressure coming from the oilpump.

I would say stay away from the Y8 head. It creates the infamous high advance, and cam timing woes.

The Z6 flows better.

I don't know about a clearance issue with vitaras on a 1.6L block, considering that the pistons sit about 2-3MM below the deck, not to mention the huge dish in the piston as well. If you feel in doubt, put the head on snug with an old MLS HG and clay it, you will find good results in your low C/R motor.

There is no clearance problem. Build your Z6 bottom with the Y8 head.

Y8 head is fine. In a stock Y8 block the interaction between the piston crown and the heads quench pad design necessitate the oddball igntion timing. On a build like this with the mega-dished Vitara pistons, the quench pad area is no longer existent.

yeah the piston has to match the had for it to be a true "quench pad". just from observation the z6 seems to deal with high cylinder pressures better than the y8 in terms of timing and the tuning window. I see alot more y8 headlifting issues which is caused by detonation but it does happen on z6's. just my thoughts
