Get a bigger hammer. I've found that a 1/4 inch craftsman socket extension fits quite nicely all the way through the hole. You just have to keep pounding.

Use a 4mm deepwell socket (for 1/4 inch ratchet). Hold that up to the pin, and hammer away. Comes right out.

I'm not ruining a socket, just an extension. besides it's Craftsman, I can just go to Sears and get another one if it breaks.

Never refer to a part of a car as a "thingy."

honda manual calls for a 8mm pin punch(sae size: 5/16"), but whatever fits in there should be good

Yea, 8mm or 5/16 punch pin. I tried a C-clamp before with a deep socket and that didn't werk so don't try that.

I used a bolt that was just smaller than the diameter of the pin...worked great to get it in and out.

When I took my motor out several weeks ago, I spent half a day working on a couple minor problems like this. I never could get that pin out and I ended up taking the shift linkage off where it connects to the shifter. Then I had to worry about a big long rod sticking out of the tranny as it was lowered from the car.

I had a similar problem. I was beating at it and it just wasnt enough. as stupid as it sounds jack the car up as far as you can so u get a bigger swing on the hammer. just that much more might help. i was using a air dremel tool too, DO NOT use it, there's no way in hell to get all of the pin out of there and the metal shavings suck getting all over the place (ie. in my eye).
