screen as a filter for turbo????
okay i have a drag 3 kit and it came with the piping and filter allready. my question is to you guys that dont have the piping and filter, what do you guys use?
ive heard of people using a screen, paintmask or whatever. What kind of screen are you guys talking about? any pics? i once took the filter off and drove with a paintmask on it and it made the car sound alot neater. sounded more like a jet (turbine) but it seemed that the turbo itself was trying to suck in the filter, so then i drove it with no filter before and the car seemed alot faster and louder.
I guess what im asking is what the best filter type is for the turbo, for both power and sound (as ricey as it sounds) hehe

there is no such thing as a good flat screen/mask to put in front of the turbo. all of them will hurt the flow and the power of your car. put a traditional cylindrical filter on it.
also do a search this has been covered many times, but beware of false info posted by people who have no clue.

screens are BAD if something small bounces up into the turbo from the road like a small piece of gravel or sand it will bend the fins and if it is bad enough it will destroy the torbo, it may sound cool but it will hurt the wallet in the long run
bottom line: use a filter

Some people (like myself) run Hardware cloth for a filter... It doesnt filter, more like keeps things out... I am only running this while the car isn't being driven on any major road..> just so i can get the car running until i have time to fab up an intake pipe for it...

I've been running without any kind of screen only because I knew I was going to send the turbo away for a rebuild anyways. After the rebuild, I'm definately putting on an intake.

i have been reunning this way for a while.
i took an old screen door and cut 2 equal pieces, and corss matched the screens , works like a charm,
just for extra comfort i thne put a screen then panyhose and thne another screen , and again works great.

Ugh, I should have never shown you the paintmask trick . That was just temporary until I had a new flange made up to point the filter in a good position. When I put the filter on I felt a tremendous gain in power and a higher boost level. Filter (More surface area) > Screen / Mask
