Default Help w/turbo filter issues recommendations?...

I'm having some issues with my turbo filter it sounds like its closing up or something once i get over 10 psi.. It makes a terrible sucking whoosing sound and seems to kill power but its defintely not like a cai sucking sound.. When i take the filter off no sounds and it runs great.. I was thinking of getting alil piece of pipe in between but my inlet is on the drivers side and the filter fits with about 2" to spare before the body so thiers not alot of room..

I searched and found a guy useing a filter with a metal ring in it like mine so i'm getting rid of it regardless because it tore up his turbo.. Mine is called a poweradder and cost 30 bucks nothing special just a autozone/pepboys special

The car makes 370hp on 18 psi is that to much for a normal filter??

What are you guys running or would you suggest i don't mind spending the money just don't wanna dish out 50 bucks for a k&n and its still doing the same thing??

anybody had this happen to them??

I've been using a K&N for almost a year and a half with no problems.

Think of it this way that $50 is going to save you an exponential amount of money down the road if you don't run a filter, or a quality filter in your case. I mean, unless you're looking to let your turbo eat up the filter

u don't hear any crazy sound coming from it??

i take the filter off and it sounds fine.. it sounds like my turbo is starving for air or something and trying to suck the filter thru....

In my experience with my turbo setup, filters rob power. I've tried K&N, AEM, and even an APC foam one, and nothing comes close to open inlet. However recently I have been running two layers of mesh with a hose clamp around the inlet and it sounds and pulls almost as hard as open inlet. The downside is that it reduces surface area of air that can come into your turbo according to some turbo gurus. There are 3 options, filter, mesh, and open, they all have their pros and cons.

Filter :
Quiet
IMO somewhat restrictive
Safe

Mesh :
Loud
Allegedly restrictive
Mildly unsafe

Open :
Loud
No restriction whatsoever
Very unsafe

I just switched over to a K&N from my old mesh screen, it feels like it took away a few HP but its def better for a DD.
