Scatter shield....................
Has anyone experienced a clutch that has been shattered and a scatter shield protected the rest of your investment ie, distributor, turbo, manifold etc.
I am very concerned cause part of my Hi-tech header and turbo will be sitting on my transmission and also my air to water intercooler will also be in the way if my clutch shatters.

i haven't heard about any problems, but i would get one anyways...it seems like they(idrc, nira, nhra) are getting tougher on tech. inspections and by the rulebook you should have one for sub-12 second cars(i think)
I'm getting one regardless. I was wondering if the scatter will protect some of my investment. That's all.. John over at Hitech exhaust is waiting for my decision on which turbo header I should get made. Either the one like Stephan Papadakis or like the one I'm getting(which is more functional and looks better too.) My header is going to be sitting towards the tranny/passenger side with the turbo sitting their too.
check out http://www.goldeneaglemfg.com they are starting to produce them and they look taaaasty!
I exploded an ACT extreme clutch pressure plate exploded shot out a big hole in the tranny and destroyed the casing. It is highly reccommend you have a scatter shield or sfi blanket. I actually like the blanket more than the scatter shield. The blanket is easier to install and take off for quick changes.

hehehe that will be ultra protective. hehehe .. i actually just like the blanket incase you ever have to change trannies at an events it alot faster if you juts unsnamp blanket and then swap tranny clutch etc.
Correct me if I'm wrong but both NIRA and NHRA rule books call for quarter inch steel housing surrounding the clutch and flywheel area on FWD race cars going 11.99 and quicker. There is no mention of blankets being legal.
For what it is worth, both the Golden Eagle and STR shields look identical. Also they are both in San Dimas, CA. I wonder if they are the same.
The STR's weigh about 6 lbs and the B & M's weigh 13 lbs. I just bought the B&M and will take the weight penalty. They are bigger and stronger and who knows if the STR's will still be legal.

if you actually read the NHRA leagal handbook it will state that the import cars are allowed to use trannsmission blankents. You can give jim skelly from NHRA an email and he will explain it to you.
I have both books and I can only find references to automatic trans blankets. I will take your suggestion and e-mail NHRA. Thanks
