scarry stuff when driving with a boosted engine and is 1600F high for egt?
So I have my turbo in with the 450cc injectors running on a non-tuned hondata (which drives pretty damn good btw). Gonna get it tuned sometime early this week.
I'm driving down the road and decide to boost a little to see what she'll do. Pulling really hard at 3-4psi @ 75% throttle I start to hear a loud metal clanking sound, it sounds like a hammer slamming against a pipe and getting louder, then the sound stops. I freak out and immediately assume the worse, thrown rod, but I don't see any smoke in my rear view mirror and no liquid on the ground. The car is idling just fine, EGT at 900 degrees Farenheit. I must have left a tool or socket in the engine bay because I checked everything and nothing feel off. The car drove fine the rest of the drive.
On the freeway crusing at 4k rpms @ 15Hg VAC I'm getting EGT's around 1500-1600 degrees Farenheit. Is this fine? It's almost off the gauge.

EGTs are supposed to be high when cruzing....but I would worry about the loud clanking sound you heard.

Well the sound went away so I think it was something I left in the engine bay falling off.
This engine has 170,000 miles on it (about 10,000 miles boosted) and I have another B20a engine sitting in my garage if this one goes. These engines go for $300-500 so they are pretty disposable.

I am assuming you have your egt tapped b4 the turbo. On the highway mine is inbetween 1350 and 1400 at 4k.

Well I found out what was making that sound. The nut from the turbo support braket fell out. The bolt is sitting there still rattling around.

Cool. Glad to hear it wasn't something major.
